Starting out this whole newsletter venture by talking about something big and personal and important: how mental health affects creativity & vice versa.
Been thinking about this a lot lately & im really excited to finally share it with the world tomorrow. I share some questions I’ve been asking in the newsletter, but I’ll share an answer here: I want this social platform to be a space where I show my life and all my cool clients and pretty sunsets and visible reminders of how cool it is to be alive on this planet in this world and state and neighborhood.

These hot springs were cute, but not really any warmer than a pool on a hot Arizona summers day. So listening to the couple who got in shortly after us complaining about the temps had me laughing, because I’m so clearly a desert rat enthralled with the idea that you can just… find water, in the middle of nowhere, and think that’s normal.

Estas aquas termales eran bonita, pero no más caliente que una piscina en un caluroso día de verano en Arizona. Así que escuchar a la pareja que entro poco después de nosotros quejándose de las temperaturas me hizo reír, porque claramente soy una rata del desierto cautiva con la idea de que puedes… simplemente encontrar agua, en media de nada, y pensar que es normal.

Been trying new things and chasing lots of new dreams lately, a scary thing for an earth sign.

I keep coming back to this phrase, reminding me that even when it feels like all these new things will leave me drifting I’m never really unrooted - I’ve got a 100% success rate of making it through all the challenges and bad days behind me, so I’ll make it through whatever’s coming my way.

There’s something about the sunshine on my face that never fails to make me feel beautiful, no matter where I am or what I happen to be doing

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how when we look in the mirror, we see ourselves lacking. When we open the camera the wrong way or catch a glimpse of a reflection we’re just as quick to turn away as we are to say unkind things to ourselves, in quick and quiet moments that happen so often yet we think nothing of their impact.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We never see ourselves laughing so hard we forget to cover up our joy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We never see the way our eyes light up when we talking about something that we love.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We never see the softness of our face when we watch someone we love while they’re not paying attention.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when someone who does see us in all of those moments tells us that we’re incredible and full of life in a way that makes them grateful just to be around us, we turn away from that glimpse of ourselves too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The only cure I’ve found so far is to put myself in positions where I’m capturing those joyful, blissful moments so regularly that it becomes the reflection I’m most used to seeing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not easy to step in front of the camera, to look at the lens and invite someone to see you, exactly as you are in this moment and all the ones that follow.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I promise you that if you let yourself open up and be brave, I’ll do my very best to make sure you’re laughing and feeling at ease and getting a chance to tell me about the things and the people that you love, because I want you to see yourself the way I see you - beautiful and full of life and wonderful beyond compare.

Sometimes I think about the time I was sitting by a bed of flowers waiting for a friend and a stranger walking past told me “you look like you belong among the flowers”
