👏🏽👀This week in black history month, we’re featuring ✊🏽, an influential actress, director, writer and producer, known for her acclaimed show, Insecure. Here are some facts about Issa Rae 👇🏽

✨ the HBO show Insecure was adapted from her YouTube web series, “The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl”. This was back in 2011, and she wrote, directed, produced it, and acted in it 💁🏽‍♀️ mmkaayy

✨ 🎤 Did you know Issa can rap? Growing up, she often felt like a misfit among her black peers, which inspired her to write the award-winning web-series prev. mentioned. 🎶Rapping, and her interest in music, helped her make friends 🫂

✨ Issa recently became the first person to receive a 🔑 Key to the city of Inglewood, CA. It perfectly imitates her character in Insecure, who was bestowed a key to the city in a fantasy sequence💭

✨Issa made it to the Forbes list “30 under 30” twice ✌🏽 for her influential moves in the industry. She’s been an Emmy nominee multiple times, and has won a BET award, NAACP award, Vanguard award, and many more.

✨ She’s a business owner 👩🏽‍💼. You may have heard of Hoorae, her production company. Or even her record label, Raedio. Issa also partnered with Hilltop Coffee and kitchen to open a cafe in Inglewood, CA ☕️

We’re featuring Jeanette Epps, an American Engineer and astronaut 👩🏽‍🚀 making moves in space for NASA 🙌🏽 For the second week of Black History Month ✊🏽

✨ Since launch in 1998, only 14 black men/women have been sent to space by NASA🚀 In 2017, she became the first black woman as an established crew member on the International Space Station (ISS).

✨Before her work at NASA, she worked at a Technical Intelligence Officer in the CIA 👩🏽‍💼For 7 years!

✨ Jeanette has completed a bachelors in physics, a master of science, and a doctorate for aerospace engineering 🎓 She is the author of several reputable research journals and articles from her studies 📖

✨ Today, she still serves as a member of the ISS Operations Branch for NASA 🛰🧑‍🚀🔭

✨ You may recognize her as the “skinny black girl” who became the youngest inaugural poet, hand-picked by first lady Biden, at the inauguration of President Biden, 01/20/21.

✨In 2017, she was the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate.

✨She perseveres through a child-hood speech impediment 😲. Yes, she continues to be a impactful orator despite her speech challenges.

✨ The first poet featured on the cover if VOGUE “What is poetry if not beauty?”.

✨She plans to run for president in 2036, when she’ll be eligible to so so 🤞🏽 Good luck! She has my vote!

✨ Her inaugural poem, “the Hill we Climb” is also in her book of the same title. She’s also published several others poetry books and has written a children’s book 📖 Check out her work!
