Heads up, folks
City announces temporary road closure
Biddeford Public Works Director Jeff Demers distributed a media statement to alert local motorists about a temporary road closure on outer Main Street, near the main entrance of Rotary Park.
According to Demers, this section of Main Street will be closed to all traffic on April 27, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a “critical infrastructure upgrade: project.

I agree with Representative Sachs, and will vote to override the veto.
My statement in response to the veto of LD 307 by Governor Janet Mills:
In 2024, Governor Mills established the Maine Artificial Intelligence Task Force to analyze the potential opportunities and impacts of this new technology on our state. In their report of policy recommendations that was issued last fall, the group explicitly stated that Maine should develop a playbook for responding to new data center development projects.
LD 307 would have done exactly that, positioning Maine to respond thoughtfully and deliberately to this rapidly evolving industry. It would have given us the time necessary to evaluate how these projects may affect our state while assessing both the benefits and the risks.
Since I brought this bill forward, the Legislature has heard from thousands of people in communities across Maine who are concerned about energy affordability and have asked us to take action and temporarily pause these projects. We listened, and the bill received strong, bipartisan support in floor votes earlier this month.
By vetoing this bill, Governor Mills isn’t just rejecting the advice of her own task force – she is resisting the will of a majority of Maine people. While a veto might protect the proposed data center project in Jay, it poses significant potential consequences for all ratepayers, our electric grid, our environment, and our shared energy future.
This decision is simply wrong.

Happy Earth Day!
In the 132nd Legislature, we’ve passed bills to legislation that helps Maine people, businesses, and communities prepare for extreme storms, strengthen emergency communications systems, and mitigate the spread of invasive species in waterways.
There’s still more work ahead!

Extreme out of state activists like Libs of TikTok need to leave our kids and our schools alone. Enough of this garbage.
A Maine school hosted an anti-bullying dance team. Libs of TikTok called it ‘grooming’ Commenters tagged the U.S. Department of Justice and called Maine a “demonic” state. Some encouraged violence against one of the dancers.

It’s time to clean up your medicine cabinet of unneeded medications. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a free event for communities nationwide to properly dispose of old and unneeded medications safely and anonymously.
Proper disposal of unneeded drugs saves lives and protects the environment and our overall community.
A safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs is to bring them to Biddeford Public Works on Saturday, April 25 from 10 am – 2 pm. Liquids, ointments and sharps will not be accepted.
For more information on how to dispose of medical sharps, please visit

Good luck to all the runners at the Boston Marathon on Monday! Biddeford's own Jessica Johnson will be participating once again. She has done a tremendous job raising money for cancer research in honor of her mom, Dorothy. Please join me in wishing her luck!

Just got home from the last major day of work in the 132nd Legislature. There will be one more session day in a couple weeks where the Legislature will consider any vetoes issued by the Governor but not much else. So in the early evening we honored all of the staff and held the traditional “Ceremony of Lights,” where departing members (either due to term limits or choosing not to run again) have their names read and push their green voting button. It’s a nice moment every time and this year, 54 members pushed their lights, which means no matter what there will be a significant turnover in membership for the 133rd Legislature.
One departing member, my friend Michael Brennan (who has 22 years of total legislative service, the longest of any departing member) talked about the pride and sense of purpose he feels when he is driving to the state house and the dome comes into view. I share that feeling deep in my soul.
The work matters. It is truly an honor to represent the people of Biddeford in the Maine House.

Meanwhile, Trump’s tariffs are making housing construction more expensive. Yet another unforced error out of this federal administration.
How tariffs are driving up the cost of a 45-unit housing development in Maine The Freeport project will likely cost more than an identical one under construction roughly 20 miles away.
Thoughts on the last days of session, legislative, defeats, and keeping things in perspective.

LD 2226, the bill to reform the school funding formula, is a huge win for Biddeford and many other school districts across the state. It is the result of an amazing coalition which spanned geographic and ideological divides. I greatly appreciate the work of Jeremy Ray, our superintendent, and of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, especially on the Education Committee. And I was moved by the advocacy of Washington County Republican legislators for this bill, including Rep. Tiffany Strout, who was a powerful advocate.
Onward!
Meant to post this in the morning. I’m pleased to announce that the school funding formula bill, LD 2226, has passed the house with a strong bipartisan vote of 122 members!
