Just A Fish Learning To Swim

I thought I knew what I was doing.
But then everything burnt to the ground.

I thought I knew where I was.
But I don’t recognize anything around.

I thought I knew myself well.
But I’m finding out more.

I thought I understood life.
But I’ve only just opened the door.

A fish will out move to a river
when they’ve outgrown a pond.

This metaphorical fish then swims to the ocean.
When the fast life grows unfond.

The landscape is always changing.
As well as our goals.

Just keep on swimming.
Forget the rocky shoals.

Slept So Hard You Forgot

I’m not sure what happened
while I was asleep.
My mind wandered off
and reality was hard to keep.
I peered into other worlds
and organized files deep
within my mind.
I took my time.
And the cobwebs I did sweep.

When the alarm rang.
I had to piece together the world.

Who am I?
What’s my name?
Is my hair straight or curled?

But now I’ve made my coffee
and taken time to organize the facts.
Now I’m about to get ready for work
to make money to pay my tax.

I found my reality at last.
What a blast.

You Are Here

I’ve been standing in front of the map of my life with my eyes searching for a “You Are Here” sticker

I am desperate to know:

Am I on the right path?
Am I doing what I need to do?
Am I lost?

This world is made of mirrors
and all I have is a sh*tty sonar signal
to guide me through a layered labyrinth
without breaking my nose

most of life is just trying not to break your nose
moving slowly enough
moving surely enough
feeling your way blindly in a world where no matter where you look, it’s you

it’s all reflections of you.

Staring back.

Imperfect.

Unfinished.

Alone.

But it is also you alone who defines the world.
You ARE the sticker on the map.
There are no wrong answers, only paths.

When it comes to the end of it all
and you’re standing on the threshold of that big black door
You’ll look back at the chronological reflections of yourself and say:

What a life.

There is no “lost”
There is no “wrong”
There is only experience.

Choose to experience happy, excited, and grateful.

Forget about finding the sticker.

Morning thoughts:

Women need to be treated right in order to show up correctly.

A woman needs to be allowed to take her time. To wake up slowly. To pour into herself. To set her environment the way she needs.
A woman needs to be treated gently, with patience and care. A woman needs space to thrive and reassurance to bolster her.

This isn’t only for lovers to know.

This is for fathers. For managers. For bosses. This is for the waiter, the cashier, and the delivery man.

This is for men to know they, too, have responsibility. For within them lies strength, courage, leadership, and wisdom. Within them lies the rigid backbone, the strong arm, the decisive nod.
Men provide the structure and women provide the warmth.

This is not to say that men know all. In fact, quite the opposite. Women are synced with the moon, the tides, and the ancient whisperings of ages long past. Women are the portal, the keepers of understanding, and the muses of modern philosophers. Women are the oracles, the prophets, and the seers.

Men are the protectors. The keepers. The maintainers. The builders. The ones who provide.

Together, in their highest form, man and woman are a perfect union.

That’s why it’s so baffling that society has reached this point of collapse, of turning in on itself, of cannibalism. Women are forced to be men and men are forced to be women.

This has nothing to do with physicality, gender roles, or politics. This has only to do with energies.

It doesn’t have to all happen at once, either. It can start small. Allow your held open door to provide security to a passing woman. Allow your compliments to only serve to provide reassurance. Ask for nothing in return and feel that gift vibrate from your very bones.

Safe women are love. Safe women are light. Safe women are warmth. Safe women heal broken men and rally them for battle either against monsters real or imagined. Safe women recharge the batteries of the world.

The expectant energy can be felt and is avoided. Self-serving predation sends shock waves to the roots. Entitled attitudes are not safe and so are fled from. These things can be held subconsciously. Men, correct these things in yourself.

There is a time and a place for other conversations. This discussion is about one thing and one thing only:

Women need to be treated right in order to show up correctly.

Men, treat the women in your life right. Be the change the world needs to see. Take the lead as you are meant to. Come together for this cause, and the world will begin to heal. It starts with responsibility. It starts with you.

Puzzle Piece

to find your piece of the puzzle
you have to understand what’s around
to see the nooks and crannies to be filled
the sharp edges and the round

you hold the key to that space
the one that sits empty as you pause
the one that completes the larger idea
and without it your piece will be considered lost

we all fit into a puzzle
ever expansive as the universe itself
but don’t hoard your piece and hide it away
or it was never worth being taken off the shelf

insert yourself
you’re needed

🌿 Are Your Boundaries Walls… or Filters? 🌿

THE THOUGHT

I once read that:

“Our boundaries are meant to act as filters, diffusing and accumulating elements over time.”

The quote was pertaining to permaculture, but I can’t stop thinking about how true it is for human boundaries, too.

Too often, we treat boundaries like castle walls filled with defenses to keep people out. But boundaries AREN'T about telling others how they must behave so we can keep them in our lives. They’re about deciding when we’ll remove ourselves from situations that don’t align with our well-being.

When we confuse healthy boundaries, ones that act more like active filters rather than complete blocks so we can continue living and not come to full stops, with walls, a few things happen:

- We isolate ourselves completely instead of simply distancing from those who repeatedly cross our lines.

- We become aggressive toward people who never meant to push our limits at all.

- We see every boundary crossing as a major red flag issue and we tend to bottle them up as we keep pushing down the importance it holds to us until we explode rather than addressing them calmly in the moment.

THE QUESTION

❓❓How can we create boundaries that act as healthy filters—letting in what nourishes us and filtering out what doesn’t—rather than as rigid walls that shut the world out? ❓❓

The uncomfortable truth: it takes energy and courage. It requires direct conversations instead of silent resentment. It means confronting behavior as it happens, rather than assuming or deciding for others.

And yes, there are people who persistently test and erode boundaries in subtle ways. With them, it’s even more crucial to know exactly where your boundaries lie—and to uphold them, every single time.

It doesn’t matter if it’s only one flower in a navigational forest you’ve surrounded yourself with, you should not allow anyone to step on your boundaries. But the responsibility lies in you to be the one to leave in those situations.

THE TAKEAWAY

How do you practice boundaries as filters instead of fortress walls? What’s helped you navigate the difference?

Afloat in the System

If you were floating in the sea
and a storm came rolling by
you’d only have to dive deeper
and you could forget the stormy sky.

But when you rely on air to breathe
and a flat place to walk
the storm rocks the boat
and tries to tip you off.

Chaos is the sea
vast and deep and wide.
The illusion is Control
we couldn’t have any if we tried.

So we built an iron ship
to float atop the sea.
That worked for a while
but the storms did not cease.

So we built the ship into a sphere
of metal all around.
We called it the System and began
to be thrashed aground.

So we protected ourselves inside the system
with bubbles of social support,
hobbies and distractions
to pad our bodies going forth.

But the System turned cannibal
and it’s eating us alive
and we forgot how to swim
in the sea of Chaos just outside

so we add more bubbles and keep doing our best
to stay shielded from the sphere
the storms outside buck wildly
and more of our bubbles are lost every year

now a turning point has been reached
whatever will we do?
try to create more bubbles
or work on forcing the sphere to come unglued?

the sea of Chaos is reality
it’s the very start and end of life
but the System is a structure built by human hands
one dark and stormy night

we can rebuild the ship
it will be alright

NEW RESUME WEBSITE -- CHECK IT OUT: https://alexisabbott.wixsite.com/portfolio

I know that this page has been pretty much dormant for quite some time. From markets to library presentations to home tutoring, I went on a lot of side-quests in the journey towards Figuring Out My Life TM

So what have I been up to during this blackout? Well, my most recent side quest has been diving into the world of marketing since May 2023 by getting hired onto not one but TWO companies in this time (SPOILER ALERT: the experience was worth it but I am SO GLAD I am where I'm at now)

In that time I have:

- Learned the ins and outs of HubSpot

- Gotten EXTENSIVE experience in deliverable design and implementation, primarily with Adobe Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

- Created, managed, and implemented:
---- Email and social media marketing campaigns
---- Go-to market strategies for products
---- B2B and B2C marketing strategies and became very familiar with both.
---- Large overview and short term marketing strategies with actionable value
---- Tradeshow coordination, planning, and packing
---- Branding for multiple companies in a startup environment

And more!!...so your local neighborhood friendly writer and start-up graphic designer has leveled up to be a marketing professional, graphic design savant, super writer extraordinaire, and business savvy executive.

BY THE WAY, I am also educating myself in AI because there is no avoiding it. So any questions on how to optimize your workflows to get the most efficiency and value out of your current employees, let me know. A valuable team is only made more valuable by PROPERLY utilizing AI to ADD to your team (not replace! Never replace good talent!)

If you have any questions about a particular soft or hard skill you see listed here, or even just some curiosity, shoot me a message.

Until then, enjoy any writing I remember to post and please support my upcoming books. I'll need it!

The Concept of IDENTITY

My identity is fluid
changing with the times
new information = new mindset = new attempted rhymes

ever flowing from my box
and from other boxes too
water can’t stay in cardboard
without leaking all over you

but what is an identity?
A collection of description words?
A grand bizarre
of who we are
nouns, adjectives, and verbs?

I called myself a writer
but I barely write
moreso I’m a thinker
who sometimes is kept up at night

I called myself a creative
but creativity is a force
it flows through everyone
and you can only barely control its course

I’ve called myself a marketer
but that’s simply the title I hold at work
75% of my life spent refining
content and outreach from the murk

I call myself a human
but that’s more of what I am
my matter and atoms have rearranged
to give me a brain, two feet, and thumbed hands

I call myself crazy
for holding my head above the stream
taking in a bird’s eye view
of this universe that’s stranger than it seems

I am never boring.
Though I might leave others a bit confused.
It’s all jumbled in my head
these identity words that are often used.

Who am I to you?
