We were honored to welcome **Zemmie Fleck**, Executive Director of Georgia Right to Life, to our meeting this morning — and if you missed it, here are the key takeaways.

**Who is Georgia Right to Life?**
Founded in 1971 — two years before Roe v. Wade — GRTL is one of Georgia's oldest and most active pro-life organizations. Their mission: recognize and protect every innocent human life from its earliest biological beginning to natural death. That means abortion, IVF, assisted su***de, euthanasia, and more.

**The Georgia Reality Check**
Even with Georgia's Heartbeat Bill in place, **28,147 abortions were reported in 2024** — and that number doesn't include chemical abortions. Zemmie was direct: the law is a step forward, but enforcement gaps and exceptions mean babies are still at risk.

**What GRTL Is Doing About It**
✅ Annual Silent March in Atlanta (next one: January 30, 2027)
✅ Campus outreach at UGA, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State & more
✅ Abortion pill reversal support — hundreds of babies saved
✅ Pro Life Bridges Day and Life Chain events statewide
✅ Pushing for the **Personhood Amendment** to Georgia's Constitution and the **Equal Protection Act** — two bills that would establish legal protection for preborn life

**The Bottom Line**
Zemmie put it simply: *"We are talking about human lives."* Sixty-five million lives lost to abortion since 1973 — more than all U.S. war casualties combined.

What a Morning with the DeKalb GOP!

We kicked off our June breakfast in the best way possible — Catherine Barnard led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, three of our own DGOP members gave a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, and member Chip Dessormeaux treated us to an incredible omelette bar. Great food, great people, and great energy all around!
And then we heard from three outstanding candidates ready to fight for DeKalb and Georgia:

🗳️ 𝗙𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 — 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝟭𝟯𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁
Fayth is running to represent South DeKalb, Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale, Clayton, and Henry counties. A wrestler, business owner, mother, and advocate who has worked with nonprofits to protect children from trafficking and exploitation — Fayth says it was becoming a mom that pushed her into the race. "I want to be able to say confidently and without hesitation that I stepped forward." She believes strong families are the foundation of strong communities and that representation means showing up in the rooms where decisions are made.

🗳️ 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 — 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝟭𝟭𝟱
Darius is a 12-year Army veteran running for House District 115 (South DeKalb and Henry County) — and he made it through the primary! This Tuesday he'll be at the State Capitol, invited by Representative Ray Martinez to speak to legislators ahead of the redistricting special session. His message: when we talk about fair maps, let's talk about ALL maps — including districts where conservatives currently have almost zero representation. Beyond redistricting, Darius stepped into this race because his opponent has one of the worst attendance records in the House AND has voted against school choice, religious freedom, bail reform, and election integrity. As Darius put it: "Half the job is showing up." His daughter — and every kid in District 115 — deserves leadership that actually shows up and fights for them.

🗳️ 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁 — 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝟰𝟬
Melina is running for the District 40 seat covering Dunwoody, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Peachtree Corners, Norcross, and Doraville — and she is fired up about school choice and classroom transparency. A grandmother of nine with firsthand experience, she's promising to expand school choice, demand full transparency in classrooms, and protect every parent's right to direct their child's education. Her opponent has held the seat since 2019 and has already said she won't vote for school choice legislation. Melina intends to change that. 🎓

This morning, the DGOP was honored to host Dr. Jesse Harris, Director of Administration and Public Affairs for DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections — and he came loaded with information every DeKalb resident needs right now.

Here are the key takeaways:

📅 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘄
Tuesday, June 16 — Last day to vote in the Primary Runoff (polls open 7am–7pm)
June 18 — Board meets to review runoff returns
June 22 — Last day to cure a provisional ballot (extended from Friday due to Juneteenth holiday)
June 23 — Official election certification
July 6–24 — Early voting for the July 28 special election
September 26 — "Registered & Ready" community event at 4380 Memorial Drive
October 13–30 — General election early voting
November 3 — General Election Day
December 1 — General Election Runoff

🔑 Runoff Reminder If you voted Republican in May, you must vote Republican in the June runoff — that's Georgia state law, not a party rule. You may also vote strictly nonpartisan (a school board race is on that ballot). And if you didn't vote in the May primary at all, you can still participate Tuesday — just choose your ballot when you arrive.

𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱? 𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴:
Serve as a credentialed poll watcher (coordinate through the DGOP)
Observe Logic & Accuracy testing of voting equipment
Attend public Board meetings — June 18 and June 23 at noon
Submit public comments via email (send it 35–5 minutes before the meeting, not days in advance)

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲
Dr. Harris brought serious credentials to this morning's conversation. Before coming to DeKalb, he managed elections for over 5.2 million registered voters in Los Angeles County — translating ballots into more than 21 languages — and later served as Deputy Director of Elections for the entire State of Georgia. He didn't come to lecture; he came to listen and engage. The fact that he accepted our invitation, answered tough questions about absentee ballot delays and voter registration gaps head-on, and stayed for a real conversation says something. DeKalb County has a professional running its elections office, and residents on both sides of the aisle should know that.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁
Dr. Harris reminded us that his office exists to protect the integrity of the process itself — impartial, professional, and accountable to every voter in DeKalb County. That kind of transparency is exactly what Limited Government looks like when it works.
