What a historic and beautiful day! 🇺🇸
I had the pleasure and honor of painting this watercolor illustration for the for their 2021 Inauguration Day key cards.
I was so moved by the speeches, the poem written and read by (!!!!), and the hope on our horizon. The Willard Hotel has been a Washington DC landmark for over 200 years and housed presidents of both political parties. Today, seeing our past presidents together from both political parties celebrating the inauguration of President and Madame Vice President was light I needed to see. There’s so much more to celebrate than what I can describe from this caption, but I hope that seeing our history and how far we’ve come, gives us hope that change, unity and progress is within our reach.

This portrait of Poppy was painted from a photograph taken by her mom, a very talented photographer in her own right!
A photo reference is more than just a reference. When working from a beautiful photo, it feels like an art collaboration with the photographer.

2020 can be summed up as a year of unexpected, unique, and magical collaborations. This painting was the second time I worked from photos taken by one of my good friends and favorite photographers . I worked from a series of engagement photos she had taken, and I created a new composition through a combination of her shots. This couple, this home and this whole photo shoot feel like a fairy tale, and we all need a little bit of that magic this season ✨

There is nothing quite like going to to get into the holiday spirit. I go every year to their gingerbread house unveiling (it is a masterpiece every year!) and to see the beautiful tree adorned with Presidential ornaments.
I was lucky enough to capture some of their magic in watercolor and gouache for their holiday cards last year ✨🎄

When I feel uneasy and out of control, I naturally retreat into my imagination, and in the past, traveled and be marveled by the things I see and encounter in this beautiful world. This was a personal project I worked on for and . I miss you both dearly! 😘
