Powerful testimonial from journalist Ann Curry about the humanitarian crises in .

She reminds us that none of us can give in to hopelessness: "When we care — as individuals, as a nation — we can make things happen. This is the real source of America’s greatness. The women I met that day didn’t have the luxury of not caring. And neither do we.”

On Yom HaShoah, we remember the lives lost in the Holocaust and honor the survivors who have borne witness with extraordinary courage. As their numbers dwindle, our responsibility to remember is as important and timely as ever. And remembering also means applying the lessons of moral courage and action to our current realities. May we choose compassion and protect our shared humanity, today and always.

Grateful to join Nick Watt on CNN for shining a light on the devastating humanitarian situation in and how CARE and our partners are working around the clock to deliver food, water, supplies and emotional support to help people in Lebanon cope with the trauma brought on by this war.

Grateful for a meaningful few days in Boston with incredible supporters who power CARE’s work! A special highlight was celebrating my friend Virginia McGee Richards at the Harvard Book Store for the launch of her new book, “The Inner Passage: An Untold Story of Black Resistance Along a Southern Waterway” — a powerful blend of stunning photography, poignant essays, and reflection. An evening of some of my favorite things – independent bookstores, history, community, friends – and offered a much-needed antidote in these challenging times.

Like millions around the world today, we are grateful for the announcement of a two‑week ceasefire, yet deeply worried about the future.

This pause must extend to , where CARE is witnessing staggering human suffering and over 1.2 million people displaced.

With so many innocent lives, especially and , at stake, we urgently call for diplomatic talks to secure a lasting peace, the observance in word and deed of international humanitarian law to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and regional and global access and resources to meet immediate needs and prevent even greater and loss.

As Easter approaches, I am leaning into its message of hope. Our CARE Philippines Country Director Reiza Dejito sent out a wonderfully inspiring Easter message to CARE colleagues that I found deeply resonant, "We plant hope in places we may never return to. We leave behind safe spaces, restored dignity, and small but life-changing moments of relief, often without ever seeing who finds them, or how much it meant." To all who celebrate, may Easter remind us that caring for one another is how hope takes hold.

The situation in is worsening by the day. Severe shortages are making it incredibly difficult for families to reach safety and for teams to keep essential services running. CARE teams on the ground describe a constantly shifting environment and an enormous strain on the more than 1 million people who have been displaced.

Our teams recently visited a temporary shelter in , meeting families who had fled with only what they could carry. In moments like these, the basics matter. CARE Packages—filled with food, toiletries, blankets, towels, and other essentials—are offering a measure of comfort during an unimaginably chaotic time.

Since the conflict began on March 2, CARE has delivered more than 11,000 gallons of drinking , nearly 40,000 hot meals, along with hundreds of hygiene kits, dignity kits, and ready‑to‑eat meals.
Behind every number is a family trying to navigate fear, uncertainty, and profound loss. I’m deeply proud of our teams and partners who continue to show up every day.

Bangladesh Flood Relief: Emergency Backpacks Restore Hope - CARE 03/25/2026

A little more than a year ago, families in Satkhira, woke up to sudden, terrifying that trapped nearly 15,000 people and wiped out thousands of homes and farms.

Thankfully, because we had CARE PACKAGE® for Emergencies ready to go, our team was able to get clean water, hygiene items, lighting, cooking tools, and shelter supplies to people within days. As one mother said: It "gave me hope. I felt we could survive again.”

As we celebrate 80 years of the CARE Package® this year, I’m reminded just how powerful this simple idea still is—quick, practical help when people need it most.

Eighty years on, we’re still turning care into action—one package at a time.

Bangladesh Flood Relief: Emergency Backpacks Restore Hope - CARE Bangladesh flood disaster relief: After Satkhira’s 2025 flood, CARE emergency backpacks delivered water, hygiene, shelter, restoring dignity and safety.
