Everyone drawing Steamboat Willie, so decided to do a quick sketch… that lead to an illustration. In revisioning of Mickey had to check myself as to not invoke internal scumbaggery. Mickey with an AK! 🚫 Mickey smoking crack rocks 🚫. What’s positive? So decided to give him a copy of Eckhart Tolle’s THE POWER OF NOW. color!

Took a hiatus on being a artist, but i’m BACK! Now, took a break from picture book illustrations( WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE) to draw a self portrait of My Wife & Me. Not 100% done, but this patent illustration won’t render itself…. so on the the next

ADAPTATION: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE:
This is one of the most iconic spreads of Maurice Sendak’s book, and decided spend the most time rendering this. JUST NOW finished several rounds of concept sketches and drafts, and now on to going digital. Haven’t event sketched background, but things of a campfire with cinders behind a full moon. (think: LORD OF THE FLIES)

Unbeknownst to me K.W. is a female character, so had to go back to the drawing board and change up the art direction.

2nd Draft of my WHERE THE WILL THINGS ARE adaption (Concept Sketches): MAX (Milo): The lead protagonist is being adapted in my oldest son likeness. CAROL: The leader of the momster has been turned into a Jolly but Strong. (Think: Patrice O’Neal w/ dreadlocks) KW: My inspiration was BIG WORM fr FRIDAY but with sugar in his tank. THE BULL: is an overt homage to Mr. T. DOUGLAS: is inspired from BIG BIRD. IRA: I gave the least consideration for, but just streamlined the original source material. I’ve yet to see the 2009 Spike Jonze film, but will acquire a copy this week to help conceptualize my page layouts.

I volunteered at Turning Sun to taught x2 Pre-k & Multi class an art lesson on the introduction to self -portraits and drawings of your friends and family. Usually all of us have an introduction to art, and eventually we give it up and the imagination and creativity ultimately dies. It’s good to work with and give the next generation an introduction to THE ART LIFE 🖼
