CONGRATULATIONS to Calhoun Police Department’s Lt. Col. Kenneth Carson, center, who was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to serve on the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. The honor took place on Tuesday at the State Capitol. Carson was accompanied by Sgt. Kevin Sutton (left).

GORDON COUNTY FIRE & RESCUE'S AARON KING NAMED FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR: Congratulations to Gordon County Fire & Rescue’s Sgt. Aaron King, who was named Firefighter of the Year at tonight's GCF&R Awards Banquet.
Firefighter of the Year is awarded to an outstanding member of the GCF&R firefighting family that maintains good morale, gets along well with the public and with their command officers and co-workers. The firefighter projects a good professional image to the public, both on and off duty and possesses the high standards and dedication the Department, the County and the public expect.

Champions on and off the field. Congratulations to the Sonoraville Lady Phoenix, 2025 AA State Champions!
Though I’m a little late posting, the pride and excitement for this incredible accomplishment are as strong as ever!
These outstanding young women have represented Sonoraville High School, Gordon County, and our entire community with excellence. They demonstrated tremendous dedication, teamwork, and resilience on their path to a state championship. Their hard work, sportsmanship, and spirit are an inspiration to us all.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families who made this season one to remember. Lady Phoenix we are truly proud of y’all.

CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA PRESENTS GRANT WALRAVEN WITH OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD: The 2025 annual Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia (COAG) Officer of the Year award was presented to Grant Walraven, the Superior Court Clerk in Gordon County. This presentation took place during the annual business meeting of the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia.
Walraven took office as Clerk of Superior Court of Gordon County in 2012. He has served for six years with the Superior Court Clerks Council of Georgia, and has been a member of the COAG board for three years.
