On This Day in 2001, Country Music Said Goodbye to One of Its Finest Songwriters, Who Penned Hits for Alabama and George Strait and a No. 1 for Don Williams John Jarrard might be one of the most underrated songwriters in country music history, and we lost him far too young at 47 on this day in 2001.

We are thrilled to announce that award-winning songwriter Matraca Berg will join Dallas Davidson at our 4th Annual Legacy Show fundraiser on Feb. 7th! As the youngest songwriter ever inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Matraca Berg has had songs recorded by artists such as Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Linda Ronstadt, Tanya Tucker, Keith Urban and many more. “Strawberry Wine,” co-written by Berg and performed by Deana Carter, hit #1 and was named the CMA Song of the Year for 1997.
