I was going thru photos of the floofs at boarding school to share since we just picked up Spicoli and I came across these photos from 2023 of Bueller with what looks to be Spicoli, but that wee floof is Josie. This stopped me in my tracks. Not gonna lie, made me cry. Bueller always loved the furiends he made at boarding school and we can tell Spicoli did, too. Hopefully, mom and dad can continue to improve on the great foundation that trainer Jeanne has helped provide. Bueller became the bestest floof with Jeanne’s help when he was about Spicoli’s age, so we know there are only great things to come. Working with trainer Jeanne at Birklandshire K9 is always immensely helpful. We definitely can’t do this alone! 🤍🐾

This is a tough one for Pyrs: RECALL 🫩

Video and words from Trainer Jeanne with Birklandshire K9 -
“As a trainer, I don’t expect a 5-month-old Pyr like Spicoli to hear “come” and think, “Absolutely, right away!” These dogs were bred to think independently and make decisions without us, so recall has to be taught with intention, not assumed.
Right now, we’re at Level One: building value in the cue.
There are no expectations yet - I’m simply pairing the verbal “come” with very high-value rewards to create a strong, positive emotional response. The goal? When Spicoli hears “Come” it predicts something amazing every single time.
This is the foundation phase most people skip
—and it’s exactly why recall “fails” later on.
With a Great Pyrenees, reliability doesn’t come from repetition alone... it comes from making
“come” worth choosing 😊
This video shows exactly where we start.” 🐾

Spicoli has been at boarding school this week with trainer Jeanne Hodson with Birklandshire K9. 🤓 After we adopted Bueller, he went to stay with Jeanne. And then Lucy joined him, of course. These two prove that Jeanne does lots of things right! Bonding first with our new family member starts right away then we work on setting a schedule and then we start general beginner obedience. But next step: call Jeanne! The experience a good trainer has to help focus on and practice the things that we don’t even know or aren’t good at helps us jumpstart communicating better with our floofs in the long run. Jeanne’s help and expertise over the years has been invaluable to us. And we always know our floofs are safe and cared for. And we also know Spicoli is having fun, too!

Spicoli loves water, getting toweled off, and playing in the yard after a bath, but it’s so hard to tell from those sad lookin’ eyes! 🥺

We hope the stars align for Luna soon! Luna has been waiting for her second furever home for too long. Her first family had to return her to the rescue group after 6 years due to losing their business and then their home, circumstances beyond their control. She’s been with a loving foster family for almost 1.5 years and they, along with their floof Murphy, have loved Luna like their own. After being a long term foster with Obie, we know how this feels, but we also know there are amazing people out there for her. Is it you? 🌙 💛
