UHC recently decided to stop reimbursement to IBCLCs for breastfeeding babies as part of the mother/baby dyad. This has huge ramifications for those of us who depend on health insurance to pay for the care that we need and deserve. Please consider signing this petition to support families, Lactation Consultants, and all the people who’ll be impacted by this in the future.

I struggle with responding to texts and calls sometimes. Being human means I don’t have to get it right all the time - but I am just in love with this family of mine, and with the work I do. When I don’t reply, please know that I am being present with another baby, or with my husband and children. You are important to me, and I can’t wait to see you again!

Your feeding journey with your baby is your own. You choose how long to breastfeed/chestfeed, make milk, pump. Short term goals are the best way to check yourself. Get through this week and see how you feel. Give it till the end of the month and check in again. The choice is always yours. There is no right or wrong, only what is best for your family. Essential Lactation Support is here for you.

I don’t hate formula. (But I do hate formula marketing.)In order to keep it safe and standardized, formula only has one flavor. It’s the same every time. Breastmilk, on the other hand, takes on the flavor of whatever the breastfeeding parent is consuming. So, hopefully it’s a rainbow of flavors! As lovely as it is to think that the feeding parent is eating a wide variety of foods and getting all of the nutrients from their diet, the jig is up. We know that in the postpartum recovery period everything is hard. But even when the feeding parent isn’t consuming the most ideal diet, it’s still better than a single flavor! And every drop of breastmilk counts toward giving your baby the experience of different flavors. No perfect diet is necessary to offer perfect human milk! And all of this can come into play when you start introducing solids ❤️
