New Tax Deduction Alert: Auto Loan Interest
Under recent tax law changes, some taxpayers may now deduct interest paid on their personal auto loan, even if the vehicle is not used for business.
To qualify, generally:
• The loan must be for a personal vehicle
• The loan must be in your name
• Only the interest portion is deductible
Subject to income limits:
• Single: Phases out between approximately $75,000 – $90,000
• Head of Household: $112,500 – $135,000
• Married Filing Joint: $150,000 – $180,000
If you qualify, be sure to provide your auto loan interest statement when submitting your tax documents.
