It has been a while since I have posted a commissioned work on here. This piece took 5 + months of communicating thru text and phone calls to complete. I worked mostly from her verbal descriptions of a vision she had of a childhood memory. She had absolutely no photos of her horse or photos of herself at this age. She did send many other photos of herself and other photos to help discribe what she invisioned. She deserves much credit for her ability to express her vision, time spent communicating changes/ additions needed, most of all her patience with me and my irregular life events... "Patty Blue Eyes and Her Girl" 36"×48" acrylic on canvas. I think Michelle's post that follows tells it all. ---{ Finally got it in the mail! Thank you, Dixie Hester (Dixie Art) for painting my childhood memory of me and my horse, Patty Blue Eyes! It will be treasured! Your artistic abilities are nothing short of amazing! There are no words for how beautiful it is in person and how much it means to me.}

I can find a use for most anything, so I seldom throw anything away, resulting in a cramped art space. The woes of a por mans craft/art addiction.

My 12 yr. old grandson Lestat Avellino lives in Florida. In August he texted me and asked if I would do a collaborated project with him. He wanted to make a drawing, and then for me to transform that drawing into a painting. In the course of time he asked if his Uncle Alton (my 43 yr. old son) could maybe do some adjustments on his drawing to make it fit a 16"× 20" canvas. He and Alton worked together through messaging and came up with the composition. Alton added a few characters, and for fun, we added a few surprises for Lestat.(L.J.)... The photos show most of our work. L J's is the one with added pages, drawing by Alton, painting by me. I think that I forgot to get a photo of the finished painting or Alton's finished drawing. If LJ or his mom sees this post, maybe one of them will take one and share it in the comments.🥰🫶🤞

Dang, been a long while since I have posted a painting that I have done. I have been working on one particular painting for many months now. I finally got through the many issues I had to overcome with it and will post maybe next week after it is delivered to the client. During the months I have worked on that painting I have been busy painting baby furniture and making a 50th birthday painting for my daughter. Birthday painting is pictured. She told me the colors and she wanted a peaceful beach scene with some birds. This is what I came up with. My Happy Place, 18"×24" acrylic on canvas.

Shipped today - "This Is Us"- acrylic - grayscale - 18"×24". This one was a challenge. It took many redos, trial and error, and perseverance on parts of it, and that does not even count varnish and shading problems. I had to have lots of input through text from Michelle (lady in painting) and many many photos to get it right. Inspration photo pictured, but about 6-7 other photos were used to make changes to background, clothes, people, and chair to get this composition... But, we finally did it.

Took a brief 2 day break from my current portrait commission to help my grandson with something for school. He needed a blue poision dart frog for a rainforest project. Now, I did not do his project , he just needed this to be part of it....I would try to move the earth if he asked me too. Made of polymer clay, the frog is 2.5" from butt to tip of longest front toe pad.

Dixie Art --my intent

I specialize in turning snapshots into paintings especially those containing people or animals. Many artist do not enjoy painting commissioned pieces, but I love it ! You can find me painting or drawing portraits of people or animals, creating paintings of landscapes, seascapes, trees and just about anything anyone wants. I am a multi medium/multi subject artist that works in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils, colored pencil, pastels, graphite, and natural elements. Usually using these materials singularly, but sometimes combining two or more in a painting. It is said that for an artist to be most successful they should perfect one medium, have one style, Well, I refuse to be the norm, and retaliate with the reply , “You can’t put Dixie in a box”. So, what ever your heart desires as far as art, I will usually attempt to do.
