I am just a girl from Bankhead who is extremely grateful for this season. What's up, Shawty? Lol!

I have always been an old soul and appreciated mature experiences. Between age 18 and 31, every summer, I attended the Frankie Beverly and Maze concert at the Chastain amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia. It was always a good time. I was accompanied by a crew of people who were old enough to be my parents, and we were all in stride. Since that season, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Frankie Beverly and Maze many more times to include the time I hired them to perform a private show at a conference in Atlanta.

The soundtrack of my life would certainly include their entire concert playlist. Thank you for the love, light, and joy for so many years! Your talent and unmatched energy were a joy to behold.

Bless your heart! Rest in Power Frankie Beverly.

Storytime: suggested help me with my staging my office. So we connected and attempted to make it happen. As I was sharing my vision born from my pbe of words and wanting to write on the walls as I am inspired to, she listened gleefully. When I got to the desk, I conveyed to her that I wanted a rustic dining table to be used as a double sodes sldesk with a work station on one end. Her look changed to frustrated confusion. She looked up and said, "What else are you trying to put on this desk?" In a tone that said she not only disagreed but was horrified. She caught me giving her major side eye, and she said, "Oh, I didn't mean it like that!" To which I replied, "Oh yes, you did, and it's okay. I appreciate honesty." We laughed. She went on to express her concern that the desk would be too crowded and become difficult to maintain. The reason the desk is NOT pictured is because she was RIGHT! It is always a damn mess!

We added pops of gold around the room to capture my thank-you cards, house my live plants, and tell time.

She also insisted that I get a real sign vs. a virtual background when I was on Zoom calls. She ordered the sign, and it came back with a clear background, which didn't work against the dark paint. She was super patient with me and had the vendor add the cream background to make it pop.

Every time someone mentioned the sign, I am reminded of the power of collaboration and consensus.

The impetus of this holiday is delayed freedom due to ignorance being weaponized against those who were enslaved. Today, ignorance continues to be a powerful weapon that impedes freedom.

It is interesting how so many people deem themselves free, and yet they do not spend their freedom freely. Instead, they allow ignorance and fear to take the front seat of their souls while freedom lives inside of them as a metaphor or fantasy.

IMO, the best way to approach anything optimally is to become ORIENTED to it intimately. Are you intimately oriented to freedom?

On Friday evening, in partnership with the National Association of Black Compliance and Risk Management Professionals, I will give an address, Orientation to Freedom, at the Zucot Gallery in Atlanta.

Random topics that I think need more attention...

HBCU vs PWI is discussed often; however, what is impact of PBIs?

Why were most HBCUs founded, funded, and managed by non Black people? What was the impetus of the investment? What was the expected outcome? Liberation or an education plantation?

Infusion of Africans Immigrants in African American cultural constructs. Essensce Magazine is now owned by an African and the CEO is African. Impact? Is this also cultural appropriation? Why or why not?

Why are there so many small business and minority business incubators, sponsored programs, and grants; yet no change to the statistics as it relates to the success of minority owned businesses?

Why are there so many programs in America to "fix" Black people and zero programs to "fix" white people?

Is racism a blanket excuse that robs us of accountability? Is every conflict between people of different races about or because of race?

The choice to cheat (in any area of life) is an admission to yourself that you are inadequate, incompetent, and/or insufficient.

Exceptions are for the exceptional and most people don't qualify; yet everyone wants to be treated exceptionally well. 🙄

Unearned privilege is a stolen fruit not favor.

Attending to facts over feelings is evolutionary.

The human heart has a brain.

Is a committment to tradition impeding evolution?

Is a committment to comfort impeding evolution?

What impedes your freedom more - your choices, your expectations, or the actions of others?

Aggravation required access... why do you keep allowing access to that which aggravates you?

If you didn't have the victim story to tell - what would you talk about? Would anyone be interested? Would anyone care?

Rehearsing rage has the same impact to your psyche and neurological system as actual rage.

Why are we being marketed the ideas of depression, trauma, and general inadequacy? Awareness is one thing, marketing is another.

Why is ignorant indignation more interesting than intelligent Intentions?

If Christians serve one God who is deemed The Creator of all things and people, then why do we treat each other so differently?

All people have biases. Why are all of white Americans biases deemed racism while all Black American biases are deemed culture or tradition?

Is trauma and victim hood a security blanket of certainty? What would happen if you practiced showing up as whole, healed, and healthy.

Do inarticulate people hear the era of their ways? Is it a habit or a speech impediment? If it's a habit, then why not practice correct annunciation? I mean, there are many references for the correct way to pronounce words. If it's a speech impediment, why not get help for your disability?

Is the commitment to your own comforts costing you more than it's gaining you?

The Epidemic of Loneliness in American has nothing to do with proximity of people and everything to do with lack of connection, regardless of proximity.

Is capitalism creating a society of consumers and cash predators with little regard for human connection and collective consequence?

Is money the true measure of a man? If not, why do we allow men with money to side step integrity continually without accountability?

Is operating in the spirit of offense worth the neurological wear and tear?

Why do so many people deem asking a question as questioning their integrity? I don't even know you, I just have lots of questions!

Y'all know that I LOVE words! It is alway such a delicious experience to hear words well stitched together. It's like a warm, comforting hug.

I just listened to a video where this man said that he created a space where wanted people to experience what it feels like to be "well watered". That resonated with me so much!

Not only becasuse of the wording, but also because the unviverse has a way of meeting you where you are and evolving you. Since reading The Garden Within by Dr. Anita Phillips, I have been referring to intentional attention to my heart space as "watering my heart".

So, this man's expression was an not only comforting but a reminder that I am on the right path of watering my heart, attentively. I will certainly join the experience the video is describing in March.
