My celebration of Halloween. May you find joy in all seasons of your life.
Before I did my first real fast, I thought it would be horrible to stay hungry for days.
But after 11 days of food restriction and fasting, I was sold on the mental and emotional high and physical enhancements.
Fasting was not even close to as hard as I thought, and I felt way better than I imagined possible.
(Here’s the secret: the hunger goes away!)
These are some of my gains from fasting:
*Lowered blood glucose levels, blood pressure, and resting heart rate.
*Higher HRV scores
*Improvement in mood, focus, and optimism.
*Heightened clarity and sense of resilience in heart, mind, and body.
*I burned through daily tasks with ease.
Now I understand why fasting has been so popular for thousands of years.
The great Persian poet Rumi said, “Fasting is the first principle of medicine; fast and see the strength of the spirit reveal itself.”

My second report on my 14 day fast describes how I am stacking 2 other activities with fasting to accelerate my gains.
Variability in my life is important to me. I have a wide repertoire of workouts that are short enough to minimize my resistance and intense enough to maximize my benefits.
I keep most of them short, less than 15 minutes, so they are easier to complete.
Is there a 5 minute exercise you could add to your day that stretched you just a little bit?
My first personal challenge for 2021 was a jump into the lake on New Year's day and I've continued with regular cold exposure. This next challenge is a 14 day intermittent fast. I'm on my first day in this video.

That was a good bit of work and well worth the time!
The course addressed the "scientific, objective, external" source of happiness.
What become very clear is that searching for happiness in experiences, objects,
substances, and relationships is transient as are efforts to avoid unhappiness.
For me, the non-dual path recognizing my identity as one with all things (religious term would be "God")
is the only enduring source of happiness.
