Last year, Whitney Nell Stewart was a newcomer to her role as executive director of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society as she began to anticipate America’s 250th birthday. She was surprised to see few public events scheduled. It didn’t seem right for an area as steeped in and proud of its history as Coastal Georgia. And just like that, “Revolution on the Coast: A 250th Celebration” was born.

Who do you think are the state’s most effective lawyers?
Each December, Georgia Trend magazine’s annual Legal Elite listing highlights the state’s most effective lawyers, as chosen by their peers, in 15 different practice areas. While you may not nominate yourself, you may nominate attorneys in your own firm, as long as you nominate an equal or greater number of attorneys outside the firm.

Caryl Smith Gilbert, UGA's men’s and women’s track and field coach, was recently named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Women’s Coach of the Year as well as the 2026 South Region Women’s Coach of the Year. She has already won two national championships: the 2025 women’s outdoor and the 2026 women’s indoor titles. It's likely this success could continue for years to come, according to Loran Smith in this month's magazine.
