June is Men’s Health Month, and our team at Excelso Insurance Agency is encouraging men and their families to take advantage of preventive screenings included in most health plans. Early detection can make a life-changing difference, and knowing what to screen for is a great first step.

Here are a few important screenings and when they generally begin:

• Cholesterol checks: Start at age 17 and repeat every 4–6 years.
• Diabetes screening: Recommended beginning at age 35, or earlier with risk factors.
• Prostate cancer screening: Typically begins around age 50, earlier for higher-risk individuals.
• Colorectal cancer screening: Most men should begin colonoscopies at age 45, with frequency based on risk.
• Mental health screening: Included in annual wellness visits at any age.

Everyone’s health journey is unique, so it’s important to discuss the right screenings for your age, history, and lifestyle with your doctor.

If you’re unsure what your plan covers, reach out to our team. We’re here to help you get the most from your benefits.

Owning a small business can come with a lot of considerations, regardless of whether you’re just starting out or have been running your business for years. One major thing that business owners need to consider is their commercial insurance coverage. It can be tricky for small businesses to balance cost and crucial coverage.

With that in mind, we wanted to share a few foundational coverages most small businesses benefit from:

✅ General Liability Insurance helps against bodily injury or property damage claims.
✅ Commercial Property Insurance can help cover buildings, equipment, and inventory.
✅ Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) will typically combine liability and property insurance into one affordable package.
✅ Workers’ Compensation Insurance is required in most states if you have employees.

Your needs will depend on your industry, size, and risk profile, but having the right coverage can help save you from costly surprises.

Our firm is here to help make sure that you have the coverage you need without breaking the bank. If you have a question about the right type of insurance for your small business, give us a call.

If you're running a business from home or have no employees, you might be wondering if you need to get small business coverage. Here’s what you should know:

✅Most homeowner’s policies don’t fully cover business-related equipment or liability.
✅ A general liability policy is often a smart (and affordable) place to start for small business owners running their business out of their home.
✅ If you use a personal vehicle for deliveries, client meetings, or equipment transport, you may need commercial auto coverage, too.

Have questions about your current coverage or want help closing gaps? Just give us a call. We’re happy to help.

As we transition into fall, deer are more active, especially during dawn and dusk. With that in mind, it’s important to be extra vigilant on the roads throughout the season.

Here are some tips to keep you safe:

1️⃣ Drive slowly, and stay alert. Reduce your speed, especially in rural and wooded areas.
2️⃣ Always scan the shoulders for deer. At night, watch for the reflection of deer eyes in your headlights.
3️⃣ If driving at dawn or dusk, use your high beams when appropriate to increase visibility.
4️⃣ It may be tempting, but try to avoid swerving. If a deer appears, it's much safer to immediately brake and hit the deer than to swerve and risk a more serious accident.
5️⃣ Keep an eye out for more deer. Where there’s one, there are usually more.

If you have an incident with a deer and need guidance on filing a claim, we are always here to help. Stay safe and drive carefully this season.

As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month this May, our team at Excelso Insurance Agency is helping clarify an important distinction: mental health and mental health conditions are not the same.

Understanding the difference empowers us to better support ourselves and others.

Mental health refers to everyone’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act each day.

Mental health conditions are diagnosable disorders such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD. More than half of people will receive a diagnosis at some point in their lives.

Good mental health and a mental health condition can coexist, especially with the right treatment, support, and self-care.

Poor mental health doesn’t always mean a diagnosable illness. Stress, grief, burnout, and life transitions can all impact how we feel.

Simple ways to care for mental health include journaling, breathing exercises, movement, and connecting with people you trust.

Professional support is always an option. Therapy can benefit anyone, no diagnosis required.

If you or someone you know needs support, reaching out to a health care professional can make a difference. You’re not alone. 💚
