This month marks 3 years since I founded Bloom Vocal Studio! I’ve worked with students from age 6-88 and taught across 4 countries and 9 states. My desire is to help others find and love their own voice, to heal, and to bloom. I’m so proud of the garden we’ve created together!

As a teacher and performer rooted in social justice and advocacy, I stand unequivocally and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement, fighting for justice, reform, and lasting change.
The racial inequality and lack of accountability of those intended to serve and protect continues to be heartbreaking, horrific, and unacceptable.
I am committed to working tirelessly against the systemic racism ingrained in our society, fighting for justice until there is peace.
I have a responsibility to stand up, show up, and speak up. Black Lives Matter. I will continue listening, educating myself, and engaging in ACTION until we live in a world where these statements ring true.

Children see everything. Children are smart. Children understand fairness and justice.
We need to address the killings and protests in honestly and in an age appropriate way. Children begin to internalize racism between ages 2-4. You can start having conversations about race in preschool.
Ages 4-8: “Something Happened in Our Town: A Child’s Story About Racial Injustice” is a book for preschool and elementary age children about a police shooting. Once you assess what they know, you can have a conversation about the violence against black people without being too explicit with elementary-age children.
Ages 9-12: “Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness,” a white child sees TV coverage of a police shooting and has some questions. This book is an honest explanation about how power and privilege factor into the lives of white children, at the expense of other groups, and how they can help seek justice.
Ages 12+ “All American Boys” looks at the effects of police brutality from the perspective of two teen boys: one white and one black.
My student Aiysha is 11 and has a dream to be on American Idol by the time she is 15. I have no doubt she’ll get there. She sings from her spirit.

My piano bench cushion belonged to my Grandma, who always encouraged my music making. She would be proud to know I’m working with clients in Georgia, Washington, D.C., Virginia, New Jersey, Florida, and the U.K. Every client has different goals but my studio space looks same.
