WHAT WE DO
Just as the original mafia takes care of its own, MIDM deploys to HBCU campuses to take care of OUR own. Enter the Move-In Day Mafia! We need YOU!

Move-In Day Mafia is a registered nonprofit that provides decked-out dorm rooms and monthly care packages for FOUR years to HBCU students who have aged out of kinship/foster care, are unhoused, or are navigating the demands of college mostly on their own. WHO WE ARE

An initiative of Project Dreamlight, a 501c3 nonprofit and the brainchild of Hollywood veteran, TeeJ Mercer, MIDM is a "mob" of vol

Yeah, that's me.

You're probably wondering how I ended up here. But you won't believe where "here" landed Move-In Day Mafia.

I have been sitting on something for MONTHS. Like moooooonths. The hardest secret my team and I have ever had to keep.

Finally...I can tell you about this historic milestone.

We are in the final hours of Adopt A Scholar Week.

New to Mafia?

Once a month (14-21st), our scholars share wishlists of the things they need for the next month. Things like cleaning supplies, kitchen essentials, laundry detergent. Items start at $3, and you, our Mafia Miracle Makers, pull together and purchase.

If you are like me and don't like shopping, you can donate, and we handle the rest. (LINK IN COMMENTS)

Today is the last day, and here are a few items that are left.

Thank you, THANK YOU!

LESS THAN 48 HOURS LEFT before this month’s Adopt A Scholar Week closes!

As the week goes on, I watch that remaining items list get smaller. School by school. Item by item.

Some of our schools? Already bought out. Completely. Done.

BUT SOME ARE STILL FULL OF ITEMS LEFT TO BUY ON OUR SCHOLARS’ BACK TO SCHOOL WISHLIST.

And that means there's still something you can do today.

Anything from a $3 donation to buying a hairdryer will make a big difference.

We just need one more little push. We are almost there.

3 DAYS LEFT!

We are on the home stretch of Adopt A Scholar Week!

I want to talk to you about our kids for a second.

They are back on campus. Classes started. And the day-to-day work of just getting through has begun.

No parent to call. No family fridge to raid. No emergency fund with their name on it.

Just them. And the dream they refuse to put down.

Here is what I need you to understand: $3 changes that.

Not in a metaphorical way. Literally. A $3 donation from you covers a bar of soap, a pack of pens, paper plates so they are not washing dishes at midnight after a double shift. These are the things that make it possible to stay.

To stay in class. To stay on campus. To stay in the fight.

One small act from you - $3, $10, $25 - and a student gets through the day.

There are still items left on the wishlists. You can shop directly from their list, or donate and we'll handle the rest. We have until the 21st! Thank you.

Our scholars are not your average college students.

70% of kids in foster care dream of college.
However, only 3% go and only 1% graduate.

So the scholars we take care of every month are odds-beaters and generational curse-breakers.

Some of them carry a full course load AND a full-time job. At the same time. Because they don't have a parent covering rent or groceries or emergencies.

Some of our scholars have had to take a break to save money and then reenroll. But they have a dream they are not willing to let go of. And because of you, we get to stand in the gap for them.

It’s DAY 5 of Adopt-A-Scholar Week!

Whatever your budget, we pull together as family. If you don't like shopping, you can donate and we will handle the rest.

We are over halfway through this month's Adopt A Scholar Week.

Right now, our scholars are returning back to campus from a variety of scenarios. Some have been working. Some have been couch-surfing. And yet others, have been interning.

There are still items left on the wishlists! You can shop directly from their list, or donate and we'll handle the rest. We have until the 21st.

THANK YOU, Miracle Maker!

This isn't your typical care package program.

Every month, our scholars receive care packages and they get to choose exactly what they need – from their preferred toothpaste to their favorite snacks.

That's not just about comfort – it's about dignity!

It’s DAY 2 of Adopt-A-Scholar Week!

Adopt A Scholar Week runs from the 14th–21st each month, giving YOU the chance to support HBCU scholars by purchasing the essentials they need to thrive all year long.

Help us support our scholars!

If you can, give what you can. Every bit matters.

THANK YOU!

MOVE-IN MANIA 2026 IS A WRAP!

18 new scholars. 8 HBCUs.

18 rooms. Fully equipped.

18 young people who walked into a space that was ready for them.

Now here's what I also need you to know: We don't only show up for our new scholars. We show up for the ones who've been in the family too.

A lot of our seasoned Mafia scholars spent this summer without a fixed place to stay. Couch surfing. Moving around. Making it work the way they always have.

But now they're back in their dorms.

And for a lot of them, that dorm room is the most stable place they've got. So they want it to feel like home.

That's where you come in.

It’s DAY 1 of Adopt-A-Scholar Week!

This month, our scholars are asking for things that make a dorm room feel like a home.

Scholars at Alabama A&M need mops.

Scholars at Morehouse need handheld vacuums.

Things like trash bags. detergent, kitchen sponges. The kind of cleaning supplies that say: this is my space, and I'm going to take care of it.

These aren't glamorous items. But they matter. Because stability starts with a space that's yours.
Items start at $3. Not a shopper? You can donate and we'll handle the rest.

Thank you!
