This why you don’t want to buy and plant autumn fern! The spread may not be noticeable in your yard but it is harmful to our stream banks everywhere.

Taking a moment to look back at the restoration work done over the last week in this riparian area alongside Turkey Creek here in Oxford, Ga. This area was completely overtaken by non native invasive species like Chinese privet and eleagnus, and as you can see from our debris piles it has been no small task to clear them out. We have been working along this series of trails just north of the Emory campus for almost a year now, and we plan to finish before the end of January. Funding for this project comes from a Trees Across Georgia grant funded by the US Forest Service via the Georgia Forestry Commission, we are very grateful for their help making projects like this one possible.

Meet Randy Pollard, who has served on the board of Big Trees Forest Preserve for over 20 years. Standing in front of this majestic 250-year-old white oak, Randy’s dedication reflects the resilience of the trees he helps protect. This forest has endured through generations, and thanks to guardians like Randy, it will continue to stand tall for many more. Grateful for those who preserve our natural legacy. 🌳

Spent the morning teaching students from the Newton County Career Academy about the benefits of native plants and the detrimental impact of non-native invasive ones at an ongoing restoration site—Asbury St Park. We ended the session pulling and disposing a huge amount of invasive Japanese stilt grass.
