I changed employers during the pandemic. It wasn't by choice but ended up as a blessing in disguise. [In] my new role, I get to help grow myself and a company and do a lot of new and exciting things while helping other companies do the same. The company I was working for prior was reliant on the cruise industry and with cruises not cruising they had to cut some costs. I loved my job and no hard feelings towards them at all. I completely understand and I wish them the best. I know that with the cruises still not cruising everyday they still have to make tough decisions. That was at the end of April. I actually started looking right away and interviewed a lot. With a ton of companies (some even big named) but the job market was full of great talent looking and not enough jobs to fulfill everyone's needs. Only recently did the market seem to boomingly open back up in my specialty of mobile development. ⠀

I haven't officially started yet so I don't know the official protocol on getting people connected. I personally signed up for the app myself when interviewing and actually got a call the next day from the customer service department asking if I needed any help with anything. So reaching out directly I bet you would get a response pretty quickly. It's a marketing analytics provider called CallRail. When I was just reading up on the company on their website it was fascinating to me the product they are currently providing. I felt like I have never seen anything like it before.⠀

I started the process in April at the encouragement of my family and friends. I was living in a one bedroom apartment, single, and the isolation in such a small space was getting really difficult. I originally felt extremely guilty and struggled with feeling that I was taking advantage of a market that was impacted by the pandemic. [MORE IN THE FULL INTERVIEW]⁠⠀

Yes. When the first house didn’t work out, I absolutely took this as a sign that I shouldn’t be doing this and maybe I should wait. Ultimately I decided to keep looking in the hope that having more space would be better for my emotional ability to isolate in place if that were needed again. Isolating in my small apartment was so difficult and claustrophobic so I hoped that I was preparing myself to isolate better if the pandemic got worse. Plus I knew having this distraction would help too. ⁠⠀

I've always had an interest in nails, so I have been experimenting with different nail techniques for several years. I recently picked back up a couple weeks ago.⁠⠀

The high is the happiness I feel when doing anything nail related. I am hoping I keep this same energy. The low would be the expectation I set for myself. I want to be the best right now, but I know that I have so much more work to do before I get to that point.⁠⠀

I first started the search for a new job in April, but I didn’t get hired for my current position until the end of August. I officially left my job in a “clean” or Covid-19 free ICU at the end of August and started my new job in a Covid ICU the first week of July. It felt like it all happened very quickly, but had been a long time coming.⁠⠀

A lot of people thought I was crazy making this type of career move in the middle of the pandemic. I think a lot of people couldn’t understand why I would choose to leave where I was, relatively “safe” from Covid, to an ICU at a level 1 trauma center that was packed full of really sick Covid positive patients. At times it felt crazy even to me. But ultimately I know I made the right decision, even though it’s been really tough and even scary at times. Making changes is hella hard, even when there isn’t a global pandemic wreaking havoc, but I feel SO validated in my decision. I learned a lot about my priorities. Even though this new job is really (I mean really) hard, I get to sleep at night, my mental and physical health is infinitely better and that’s worth it all.⁠⠀

I established our little, beloved eatery in the Kirkwood community nearly 13 years ago with a hot plate, 2 electric skillets, a Mr. Coffee and a Foreman grill. My tiny lunch counter was originally intended to supplement the retail market with everyday grocery fare but the 2008 recession derailed our retail segment which forced us to concentrate more on prepared foods.⠀

Mom and Pop for coming out of retirement to help me do this. Mom made fresh soups, cakes and cookies until she passed in 2019. Pop bussing tables, making grocery runs and fixing everything that broke. I could not have done this without them.⠀

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨?⠀

It's been a very uncomfortable ride these past 4 months. First, we closed in March for 2 solid months, then reopened for takeout with brand new systems and COVID-safe precautions which included online-ordering and delivery. After 6 weeks, an employee tested positive so we shut down again for 13 days so we could all get tested and have the restaurant thoroughly cleaned. Quite a bumpy ride but I'm thankful to still be holding on, thanks to the robust support of our community.⠀

Because of the stay at home orders, my husband, the real social butterfly, hasn't been traveling for work. I've enjoyed having him here and spending lots of time at home with our pets. I'm hoping that everyone is more appreciative of the opportunities that we have to play sports together and this leads to a more upbeat vibe between teams instead of pure competition. Don't get me wrong - I love to compete, but I hope everyone can be gentler with one another. ⁠⠀

When my siblings and I transitioned to high school, our parents told us that they didn't care what we got involved in, but they wanted us to stay involved in something. I practiced that extra hard when I initially moved to Atlanta and try to continue that even today. Being involved in something helps bring some balance and outside perspective on your life. It's also a great way to meet people and form friendships. ⁠⠀
