The Groundwater Festival is held each March at Athens State University. The event serves over 1000 fourth graders from all schools in Limestone County. The festival is designed to educate students about groundwater as a natural resource-what it is, how it works, and its environmental benefits. Students will be involved in hands-on activities to learn about the water cycle, the water filtration process, and the function of wells in supplying water.

Today is Earth Day! Water is a finite, limited resource. Let's all do our part by conserving and keeping it clean!

Check out the photos that were added to the 2016 Groundwater Festival album. Thank you so much to our wonderful sponsors and volunteers! Without you all, we wouldn't be able to make the festival an annual success! Thank you to the Limestone County School Board, Athens City Schools, ABS, and LLCA for continuing to join us each year. We always look forward to it! Feel free to share and tag yourselves in the photos!

Tomorrow is the day! We're excited about seeing everyone for the Groundwater Festival at Athens State. We've got just a few reminders for you all:

~Please be sure that the signs identifying your group are clearly displayed in the bus window. Also, it is going to be cold-if you arrive too early for your session, you may have to wait outside until we are able to take you into the rooms. Encourage your students to bring a jacket.

~Because it is going to be chilly outside, we are sure many of you in the 2nd session will be eating lunch in the rooms. Please be sure to clean up after you eat. Athens State graciously allows us to use their facilities each year, and we want to be sure that we leave them in the same neat manner that we found them.

~Last, HAVE FUN!!!

Good morning! We are one month away from the groundwater festival, and the committee is making its final preparations. At this time, we are in need of 4 people to help teach the sessions that the children will attend. Those sessions are Water Bracelets (which teaches about the water cycle), Filtration (how we filter pollutants from the water), and Edible Aquifers (how we draw water from an aquifer and more on the water cycle). If you, or anyone you know, is interested in helping out the Committee, please contact Tammy Smith at (256) 233-6444 ext 219 or [email protected]. We greatly appreciate all the help we receive each year from our volunteers to make the Festival a success!
