Not interested in the live event, but if you would describe current needs I would donate $. Please post address so people can do so.
These professionals from DHHS came to learn more about issue of poverty and some had great ideas how they could make a difference!
First contact was Donnie Lloyd's memorial gathering tonight. Very impressed. As former homeless I was touched by this Christian initiative. I will be back to volunteer.
Tomorrow at Kairos West!

Eradicating Poverty through Relationships 12 Baskets is located at Asheville Poverty Initiative's community space, 610 Haywood Rd., beneath Firestorm Bookstore - entrance is in the back off of State St.

Asheville Poverty Initiative's mission is to build community and promote economic justice. Dismantling stereotypes, reducing fear, and empowering hope through telling stories across socio-economic difference. We envision a beloved community that celebrates mutuality, abundance, and justice.

Anyone want to donate a lightly used or new pop-up 10'X10' event canopy (see picture) to 12 Baskets? If so message or call us! Our volunteers are getting soaked when it rains during outdoor Cafe to-go days, and we're hoping to plan some pop-up events this summer (stay tuned!). A canopy or two would be amazingly helpful!

[03/03/21]   Check out the produce and dairy donations we had on Tuesday! Rescued from Earth Fare Westgate and Whole Foods South Asheville

Masked and socially distanced, we distribute food Tuesdays and Fridays on 610 Haywood Road from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. This perfectly good food is rescued from partnering organic grocers, restaurants and retirement homes then re-distributed from our space. This food is available to all, regardless of whether you have access to food or not. Come say hi! We love to meet new neighbors ☺️

[07/28/20]   Hey there Beautiful community! We are going heading into month 6 of coordinating nearly 1400 meals a week for those being sheltered through the City and Homeward Bound's partnership. 65 folks not living on the streets! It's kinda proof we can do this - that the resources exist to ensure the care and shelter of our neighbors. THAT SAID - we need you. Companions and restaurants that have been sustaining these meals since the beginning need to step away (understandably) which leaves a meal for you and your friends to help provide.
Logistics: lunch and dinner meals each are comprised of 65 meals in individual containers. Sign up for one meal or a weekly one. You can get with friends (physically distanced, of course :) and make it or contract with a local restaurant (which helps them out, too). PLEASE DO NOT randomly drop food off at the hotel!! We oversee a schedule and there is very little storage capacity for extra meals.
And we sign off with a HUGE thanks to those who've been helping thus far (this list is not exhaustive): Baba Nham restaurant, Food Experience, Little Caesars, Warren Wilson Pres, First Pres, Church of the Advocate, Subway, YWCA/Food Connection, Welcome Table, Black Mountain Academy, Rouleau Reality, Reel Malloy Food Truck, Holy Spirit Episcopal - and others, and numerous volunteers who have gathered teams! Whew, y'all! It takes a village - and that's how it's supposed to be!
This really is so helpful as we at the Cafe continue to give out over 250 meals on Tuesdays and Fridays, while also sharing the abundance with the Asheville Survival Program and BeLoved food boxes around town. There is enough, y'all! There is enough! Help us live into the abundance and share it. To help provide a meal for 65 folks, please email us at [email protected] and we will walk you though how and schedule when a drop off would be most needed.

Thanks @patchworkurbanfarms for SO much fresh, local produce. Banana peppers, jalapeños, collards, rainbow chard, kale and more 🥬🌶🥒🥕

07/03/2020

A letter sent to us from one of our community members. So grateful for the many ways people contribute, even when money is tight and times are uncertain. We ALL have something to give! This is community.

06/30/2020

That’s right, Earthfare at West Gate is open again! And giving us fresh delicious food! In this time of chaos, abundance still exists. Come celebrate and share in it with us. Tuesdays and Fridays 11 a.m.-1 p.m. @ 12 Baskets Cafe: a program of Asheville Poverty Initiative

05/26/2020

We are seeing more and more people. A sign of the times. BUT we are also seeing the generosity and abundance that does exist when individuals and corporations stop hoarding! There IS enough. Let’s share it, y’all!

We are coordinating 1344 meals a week! And it happens one meal at a time! Thanks @littlecaesars on Patton for giving us a great deal on 60 delicious pizzas. 60 pizzas for 60 people. 🍕 Tonight the folks being temporarily housed by @homeward_bound_wnc in Asheville can each have their own pizza. THIS is what community looks like! We can all have what we need when we work together 💕❤️🍕

wlos.com The Asheville Poverty Initiative is helping to feed one of the city's most vulnerable groups. In addition to all the meals we already share out of our space - What a privilege to be asked by Homeward Bound and the City of Asheville to coordinate 700 meals a week for those hunkered down at the Harrah's Center. It's been a challenge but goodness - the community has come together! From 12 Baskets, to the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association, to owners of restaurants (Rezez and Baba Nham),to Food Connection, the YWCA/Wicked Weed and the Welcome Table, several faith communities (Church of the Advocate and Warren Wilson Pres, First Baptist of Weaverville), and a number of amazing individuals who've gathered virtual teams to make meals - we've made it happen! There is enough y'all - this is just another example. When we all share - we all have what we need! Thank y'all! 700 meals a week! Whew!
