LOUDOUN RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has again been named as one of the 2022 Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Only 19 school districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia were recipients of this award.

Now in its 23rd year, the awards program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. This year’s awards program was designed to celebrate schools and districts adapting, innovating, and persevering in the face of change.

“The 2022 Best Communities for Music Education is an opportunity to celebrate music programs and honors the resilience and dedication to keeping music as part of a well-rounded education as we all adapt to a new educational landscape,” says Christopher Johnson of the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. “If there was one common theme to be taken from all submissions, it’s that schools and districts found ways to sustain music education and student engagement in even the most challenging of circumstances.”

LOUDOUN RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has again been named as one of the 2021 Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Only 20 school districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia were recipients of this award.

Now in its 21st year, the awards program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. These districts and schools set the bar in offering all students access to comprehensive music education.

Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music. In a series of landmark studies by scientists and researchers at Northwestern University a link was found between students in community music programs and life-long academic success, including higher high school graduation rates and college attendance. In another study from the University, it was discovered that the benefits of early exposure to music education improves how the brain processes and assimilates sounds, a trait that lasts well into adulthood.

LCPS 2020 Honor Bands

11 LCPS High School Bands have received the distinction of Honor Band in the year 2019-2020!

The Virginia Honor Band recognition and award is the result of a project and survey that was conducted in the spring of 1979. As part of the end result of such a festival, the recognition of bands displaying a comprehensive program was the intent of the Virginia Honor Band Award. Bands achieving superior ratings at the state marching festival and district concert festival were to be recognized with the highest honor that can be bestowed upon bands by the VBODA.
