I am super excited to announce that I have started a new position as the Executive Director of the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Rescue Department - AVFRD in Loudon County, VA!
Through my time of being member of the volunteer fire and rescue system of Prince William County Fire & Rescue at Buckhall Volunteer Fire Department, and Coles District Volunteer Fire Department where I have had the pleasure of serving as both departments Training Officer and as Buckhall's President - I have grown to love every aspect of it. This, along with my time in the non-profit sector as the CEO of Project Mend-A-House, will be a great asset as I embark on this new journey.

PMAH, church partner over spring break, tackle 12 home-repair projects in Manassas, Woodbridge
To end a fantastic week, check out our story from Potomac Local News. I am so proud of this team at Project Mend-A-House and everything that they have accomplished this week!

PMAH, church partner over spring break, tackle 12 home-repair projects in Manassas, Woodbridge It's been a busy week for both Project Mend-A-House and Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Leadership.
Anyone can wear a suit and tie, anyone can shout objectives, anyone can enforce rulings but few can lead. This week my team accomplished the unthinkable, installing ramps, replacing doors, fixing electrical and plumbing, setting up stair climbers, and meeting crucial financial caps, while staying within projected timeframes. Were there hick-ups? Of course! That is what makes us human beings. But did we as a team push through? YOU BET WE DID! But at what costs?
This is where taking that suit and tie off matters. Leading from the front. Go out with your people, stand beside them, and let them know you are there for support!
This week allowed me to step out of the office, take the suit off, and give assistance where needed. A photo has a thousand words and one of our staff members captured just that. We went to install a ramp, a heavy ramp, I may add... And we were there as a team, as one. Questions were asked on how "me" as the CEO wanted to handle this project.
This is where your leadership shows and your team SHINES!
Let your team lead as you step back, and that is what happen. Our Project Manager knew exactly what to do and lead this team to successful project completion! Was I there? Yes. Was I there to take control or act as the CEO? No. I was there as someone to lean on, someone to get dirty, someone to be the go-for, and that is what happened.
Let your team shine and the unthinkable will happen. Way to go team, way to go volunteers, way to go Project Mend-A-House!

A gift of love comes in many forms. Please consider donating to a local non-profit that directly serves Prince William County!

Let’s go Jessica Heims!!

Brynn and I had our first full day out and about together this weekend. She did an AMAZING job through each of the stores we went to and the dealership. This was a huge step in our journey together as we have only been to one store at a time for the last six months or so.
Though Brynn was at the top of her game, the people were not. Service dog access and ADA compliance is something that I know I will have to deal with all the time because people do not always know the law. But, the thing I was not expecting was for people to not be educated about a working dog in general. I have went as far as getting her patches that say “DO NOT PET” and “DO NOT DISTRACT.” I guess this is not enough. People need to do better…
