Last week, Loudoun County Supervisor Letourneau held a virtual meeting to discuss the effects of Covid-19 countywide and asked for the help of HOA’s to distribute information related to domestic abuse. There has been a rise in the number of instances of domestic abuse but not necessarily the number of cases reported due to school closures and lack of interaction between children and teachers/school staff or coworkers.
If anyone is an abused party or knows of someone that is an abused party or a neighbor who observes, hears or suspects abuse especially of those incapable of seeking help on their own -- such as children who are too little to seek help and the frail elderly -- should contact the county hotline number at 703-777-6552. More information is provided in the link below:
While, this topic is not an HOA related topic it is an extremely important one to address and one we hope everyone takes serious. Thank you in advance! We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.

Condo Life: Lessons Learned
If you have replaced a washing machine any time in the past decade you probably purchased a High-Efficiency (HE) model. Did you know that you also have to use “HE” detergent? There could be a high price to using bargain, non-HE detergent as we’ve recently discovered.
If you use non-HE detergent in a HE washing machine it could cause an overflow of suds. HE washing machines require HE-designated low-sudsing detergent. Not only does traditional detergent harm your machine by “confusing” its cycles, it does not rinse out well and the potential overflow can cause water damage to your unit and the unit below you. Spending a few extra dollars on detergent is much less costly than replacing flooring and drywall!
If you have tenants, please make sure they know this too!

To Prevent A Burst, Prepare for the Worst!
With another polar vortex on the way, it is important to prepare your home so that you avoid burst or frozen pipes. A burst pipe can cause a huge amount of damage to your home, resulting in costly repairs and insurance claims. While nothing is a guarantee, there are some things you can do to keep your pipes safe:
Continuously keep the heat on inside your home to protect pipes from the elements.
Open cabinets to allow warm air to circulate around your pipes.
Keep your faucets dripping – moving water typically won’t freeze! This applies to cold and hot lines.
Keep interior doors, like your bedroom, open to allow warm air to circulate through your house.
If you have a garage, keep the door shut to help keep cold air out.
If your pipes freeze, it is important to OPEN all of your faucets. This is so when they thaw the water has somewhere to go! Apply warm air, using a hair dryer, to frozen pipes to help thaw. Call a plumber.
Stay safe and warm… and remember, Spring will be here in just a few months!
