It was fantastic to host elected officials, volunteers, donors, parent liaisons, community partners, and supporters of all stripes for a celebration of our newly rebranded Fueled ⚡️ initiative.

Did you know that the needs of our students for basic food and hygiene products have never been higher? 💡

Last year was our biggest year ever for weekend meal bags and demand from school pantries. Through the first few weeks of this year, demand is UP 38% on record highs 🤯

You can be part of the solution by hosting food and hygiene drives, volunteering to pack or drive the meals, or donating any amount to offset the cost of supplies.

Together, we can keep students and families focused on learning 🙌 https://www.loudouneducationfoundation.org/fueled

🦉 Raise your hand if you give a hoot about learning! 🙋‍♂️

LEF's Innovation in Education grants are open NOW (link below 👇) and can be used for learning that's *wildly* outside the box.

Last fall, Potowmack Elementary School 3rd Grade teacher Mrs. Perrault applied for and received a $500 grant to create an "Amazing Animals" science course.

Her students studied animals native to Virginia, creating digital reports and models of the animals to share with classmates.

They got inspiration from the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center — and met some furry and feathered friends — for hands-on learning with:
🐍 a black rat snake
🦨 a skunk
🦉 an Eastern Screech Owl

Innovative learning gives Loudoun County Public Schools students an unforgettable experience, and space to dream big.

This is what community leadership looks like! 🙌

In support of its Pack the 'Pack initiative, BCT-The Community's Bank partnered with LEF to fund the Backpack Coalition program, designed to feed students with food insecurity.

Throughout the school year, this program offers food, snacks and hygiene items to more than 1,000 families in Loudoun County, ensuring that they can focus on their studies instead of basic needs.

This video, featuring our friend Principal Nick Cottone from Seneca Ridge Middle School, discusses the need at just one Loudoun County Public Schools location!

Between now and the end of August, you can donate to feed Loudoun students on BCT's website, or at any bank branch location: https://www.mybct.bank/about/bctcares/

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Jane O’Connor as the inaugural Loudoun County Public Schools Health and Medical Sciences Resource Teacher for the school division. Dr. O’Connor taught Biology and Chemistry at Tuscarora High School during the 2022-2023 school year.

Following graduation from medical school, she pursued surgery: training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Providence Hospital, then Orthopedic Surgery at Howard University Hospital.

While at Providence Hospital, she founded a formal research fellowship program for plastic surgery focusing on surgical wound healing and management. At Howard University Hospital, she developed another formal research fellowship. She was the academic research coordinator for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Howard University College of Medicine.

Dr. O’Connor looks forward to the future and the opportunities the Health and Medical Sciences Academy will provide our LCPS students.
