National First Responders Day recognizes the heroic men and women who make it their business to take immediate action when disaster strikes. Whether you’ve had your own emergency or not, it’s not hard to understand and appreciate the dangerous and difficult work they do. Take a moment to thank a First Responder today!

It all started with a dog named Bear. Bear was quite the ham and knew how to interact differently based on the individual needs of the Veterans. He would lie quietly on the bed if needed or put his paws up to encourage others. This led many Veterans to ask if they could take Bear home with them. Bear’s owner thought, “why is therapy one hour a week inside when it could be 24/7 at home?” Since Bear was spoken for, his owner thought she could help more veterans find their own Bear to help them rehabilitate. To spread the word, we’re celebrating Bear and all other Service Animals on October 21!

Today is Medical Assistants Day. This is a great time to explore this important, fast-growing career. Medical assistants provide clinical and administrative support for physicians and other medical professionals. Medical assistants often work to make patients feel comfortable while in the physician's office and help to explain the physician's instructions to them. Thank you for all that you do!

NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY

Each year on June 27th, National PTSD Awareness Day recognizes the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those impacted by it.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. The statistics alone are staggering, but can only tell a portion of the story. The trauma and anxiety associated with PTSD is a constant burden, inseparable from the sufferer. It was once a condition that was attributed only to returning combat veterans, but more and more the condition is diagnosed in those who have experienced violent crime or lived through catastrophic events. According to PTSD United, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD.

The observance not only strives to bring awareness to the public but to also educate and eliminate the stigma associated with PTSD. Many of those with PTSD don’t seek treatment. Sometimes they simply fear the labels attached to PTSD. However, with support and understanding, we may all better understand the signs and provide better care.

Anxious or on edge

Avoidance of things or people who remind you of the event

Over time, these signs may fade. However, if they don’t, seeking treatment is not only suggested but helpful to many who suffer from PTSD.

This Memorial Day, take a moment to REMEMBER our country’s fallen, your brothers and sisters, let us NEVER forget the ULTIMATE sacrifice they paid with their lives for our freedoms!

The rifle is affixed with a bayonet and inverted, signifying that the Soldier went down fighting. The boots signify the Soldier’s last march onto the battlefield. Dog tags are imprinted with the Soldier’s name and hung from the rifle so their identity will never be forgotten. The helmet is placed atop the rifle representing what the Soldier stood for and signifying that their battle is now over.

The Battlefield Cross is a sacred symbol amongst military members. Since a funeral is typically not possible during wartime, these symbols serve as a rallying point where surviving members of a unit can mourn and remember their fallen comrades.

I am very concerned that people will believe what we read on Facebook and other social media outlets and just STOP making mortgage payments because the banks are saying we have the right to not have to make our mortgage payments for up to 1 year. It’s really only up to 180 days with the right to extend another 180 days. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 VERY 𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚! I have seen many people hurt by forbearance programs during the foreclosure crisis and I have spent years helping people with loan modifications so that they didn’t lose their homes because they couldn’t afford their new payments. It is not as easy as it sounds. People are often blindsided by the small print and end up in default and even worse foreclosure.

If you can’t pay your mortgage, or you can only pay a portion, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆. There is NO automatic entry into any program by simply skipping your payment. YOU must CALL your servicer to discuss your options. I would highly recommend getting the forbearance plan in writing from the bank BEFORE missing the payment or signing anything!
