STEM to STEAM: Discovery, creativity and innovation!

We believe both science and art are human attempts to understand and describe the world around us. The subjects and methods have different traditions, and the intended audiences are different, but the motivations and goals are fundamentally the same - discovery, creativity and innovation.

A thousand miles, a thousand smiles

RoboLords introducing FIRST robotics to the students of Kashmir, India in a partnership with Kashmir Education Initiative (KEI). It is encouraging to see the curiosity and smiles on these students who are thousands of miles away from us. Seen in the picture, Ikhlaas Bhat (Ikhlaas Bhat), explaining the ethos of FIRST, the GoBilda kit (goBILDA) and some Arduino programming to these students. The students come from challenging financial backgrounds and KEI (https://www.kashmirei.org) is supporting their costs for robotics.

FIRST Tech Challenge is not about robots, but about people. Young people who are determined to face and overcome the challenges; big or small, complex or trivial. They teach us how to turn toward reality and embrace life as it is, instead of as you wish it to be. With FIRST Chesapeake competitions kicking off this weekend (Jan 30, 31), these teams are participating even if they don't have a field to practice, or a fully functional robot to play. Yet they are determined, and that makes me realize that they don't wait for the future, they build it! Best wishes to all the teams for a fantastic season!

Two months into school closings. Here is how our teens spent their time.

We have had a safe and enjoyable 8 weeks of teaching Algebra, and Computer Science (Java) in our Free Online Tutoring Classes. In these classes, we are teaching a total of 19 students ranging from 11 to 14 years old. We are lucky to have the opportunity to teach these wonderful students from Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey.
We are seeing a tremendous improvement in the students’ understanding which is reflected in an 8% to 10% increase in the students’ grades. This is an incredible achievement and we thank our students for their dedication and the parents for their whole hearted support.

These kids are truly the game changers of tomorrow!

We are going through one of the toughest times in our life. The impact of COVID-19 on our economy and our lives is discussed widely in the news and social media. However, a very important aspect of our life - our future, our children's education - is being overlooked due to other critical events affecting our lives at this time. Our team realizes that keeping students engaged in learning & development is just as important as staying safe and healthy. Our amazing high school students (Juniors/Seniors at TJHSST and AOS/AET) are volunteering to tutor the middle/high school students on Math, Science and Java Programming. If you are interested in enrolling your child to one or more of these live online sessions, please sign up using the link above. We will try our best to match your child's availability while scheduling these sessions.
