Instructor Ana Olaya of the Kumon of Miami Shores Center shares details of her successful 2022 Book Drive, and her plans for this year.
After collecting over 500 books, Ana chose to donate them to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation. The books donated by the Kumon of Miami Shores Center brought smiles to the hospital patients, truly presenting them with the gift of learning during the holiday season.
“I chose the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital because I am so thankful for the hospital, as my son was a patient there,” says Ana. “It was such a great feeling to give back to them. It’s amazing knowing that many people in the community joined in to donate for the book drive. The hospital was appreciative of our efforts.”
This year Ana plans to spread holiday cheer once again to the patients of Nicklaus Children's Hospital and donating even more books than last year.

Heading back to school can stir up excitement, nervousness, and uncertainty for many. As your child approaches the new school year, communicating openly with them can be a factor in their success.
One topic you can discuss together is their goals. Are there skills they want to develop, like being more organized or managing their time better? Is there a subject they’re struggling with that they want to improve? Maybe there’s something new they want to try this year. Setting goals will help kids think more about the bigger picture and less about individual successes and setbacks.
Here are 3 other back-to-school topics you can have with your child:
