f you have a room not wired for an overhead light, usually one of the outlets is designated to the light switch. It is a standard practice to have that outlet be “upside down” so that you can easily identify where to plug in your lamp.
BTW, if you would like to have the room wired for an overhead light, I have a couple of great referrals to send you!
