It is a great joy to work in a school with such wonderful and kind students! This young man, all on his own, decided it was important to raise money to support our Multiple Disabilities Program. He felt inclusion was so very important that he held a Book Drive and shared the proceeds with our school! Thank you families for sharing these wonderful young people with us each day and for instilling and supporting the values of kindness, selfless acts of service, and inclusion. It continues to be a great honor to serve the Cedar Lane School Community and Lion Nation!

Good Monday morning, Lion Nation! We had such a great (and busy) week last week! I am proud to share with our wonderful Lion Nation school community our CEDAR award winners for the month! Please join me in celebrating the awesome work of Mrs. Tara Holton and Mrs. Jill Redenburg! Congratulations again ladies! You are both AMAZING educators! It is a joy to work with you!
The CEDAR awards are presented to teachers to Celebrate Educator's Deepening Learning through Academic Rigor.
Mrs. Holton differentiates for learners without lowering expectations. She does this by talking "with" the students and not "at" the students, because of this, Mrs. Holton’s students are fully engaged with what they are learning. The classroom environment is also full of active, hands-on participation, activities, and lessons that promote thinking and problem-solving.
Mrs. Redenburg is an amazing educator who focuses on making learning fun while deepening academic rigor! Mrs. Redenburg holds high expectations for all by effectively differentiating to meet her learners where they are. A few of the ways she does this includes allowing students voice and choice through the use of interactive choice boards in reading and math and using IXL to monitor what students are learning and to help create individual groups. Mrs. Redenburg creates a safe learning environment through the use of team-building activities and the fluid incorporation of SEL lessons.
Way to go Mrs. Holton and Mrs. Redenburg! Keep up the excellent work!
Attend the LCC PTA Parent Resource Fair
Attend the Loudoun County Council PTA’s Parent Resource Fair and learn about services available through Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) and in Loudoun County or learn how your family can help others. The Resource Fair will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the LCPS Administration Building (21000 Education Ct., Ashburn). The fair will feature six 20-minute breakout sessions to provide parents, guardians and community members with vital information about:
Math and reading strategies,
Managing teen stress, online student safety,
LCPS apps and services like ParentVue, the Stopfinder bus location app, LINQ Connect meal payment platform, and the Lightspeed Parent Portal
LCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence will give the opening remarks. LCPS departments and LCPS partners will be on hand to provide information about their programs and services. More than a dozen Loudoun County nonprofits will also be in attendance, including Mobile Hope, Loudoun Hunger, Women Giving Back, and the Loudoun Coalition of Women and Girls.
No time for dinner? No worries! Food trucks will be available to purchase meals and snacks. Childcare will also be provided at no cost. Plan to attend to learn all that LCPS and Loudoun County have to offer!

I just received confirmation that our Cedar Lane Lions will get to run on the field tonight at the SBHS Football Game!! Cedar Lane Lions that are interested in running on the field prior to the game will need to be at the flagpole prior to 6:40 PM and in talking with Assistant Athletic Director Kyle Gallo, we anticipate the approximate time that students will run on the field to be 6:50 PM. They will be making announcements about this at the stadium, so listen closely as you arrive if this is something your student is interested in doing this evening.
I look forward to seeing you this evening at 5 PM here on our Cedar Lane campus for the pre-game Tail-Gate, then at SBHS for the Football game.

Good Friday morning, Lion Nation! I hope your day is off to a fantastic start! I am excited for our Tail-Gate today here on campus beginning at 5 PM. We will have a Food Truck, Kona Ice, and Hershey's Ice Cream available for purchase. We have our Cedar Lane Spirit Night at Stone Bridge High School this evening with the kickoff of the game at 7 PM. Cedar Lane Students will get into the game for free with a ticket purchasing adult. Please see the attached flyer for tickets.
I want to encourage our families to attend an upcoming Superintendents Listening Session at Stone Bridge High School which will be held on October 17th at 7 PM. I had the honor of giving Dr. Spence, our new Superintendent, along with Chief Academic Officer Dr. Ashley Ellis, a tour of Cedar Lane yesterday at noon. After having the opportunity to hear Dr. Spence speak at our Administrative Leadership Team get-together in early August, as well as our Principal Meeting and the Superintendent / Principal Advisory Meeting, I am very excited to work under his leadership. It was awesome having him at Cedar Lane yesterday! Dr. Spence emphasizes the importance of relationships and seeing him interact with our students and staff yesterday was a real joy!
As a reminder, Monday, October 9th is a Student and Staff Holiday. I hope all of our school community is able to enjoy the long weekend!

Last week we recognized two outstanding educators with our CEDAR awards! The CEDAR awards are presented to teachers to Celebrate Educator's Deepening Learning through Academic Rigor.
Our first trophy is presented to Mrs. King for her work with 1st graders. Mrs. King is an amazing teacher with a positive attitude. She ensures that all of the students in the classes that she works with can access lessons provided in an engaging way through the use of Nearpod! She makes use of such things as enhanced read-alouds with definitions, and varying activities for students to show what they know! Mrs. King has not only taught the students, but she has taught her coworkers some very cool features of Nearpod. Mrs. King is making use of the UDL principals on a daily basis with all of her students! Thank you for being awesome, Mrs. King!
Our second trophy is being presented to Mrs. Anderson in 4th grade. Mrs. Anderson has fully incorporated the math workshop model in her class and is using data to make sure to reach all of her learners. Students are given the support and freedom to learn and grow at a pace that is just right for them! She has a balance of instructional time with student-led independent work time. She provides individualized math playlists that meet the needs of each student and provides various means of practice, and students are provided with choices of activities, which increases student engagement. Thank you Mrs. Anderson for all of your hard work and dedication to your students!

OOTM (Odyssey of the Mind): This creative problem-solving competition is open to students from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Math Olympiad: Our Math Olympiad program is back, and it's open to students in grades 4 and 5.

Good Wednesday Morning, Lion Nation! Join me in welcoming Mrs. Timarie Lawrence to our Physical Education TEAM! Mrs. Lawrence is a wonderful addition to Lion Nation! Below is a message from Timarie:
I’m Excited to begin my mornings this year as a part of Lion Nation at Cedar Lane Elementary and then continue my day as a Dazzling Dolphin at Sanders Corner Elementary! I come to you with teaching experiences from Thailand, Germany, North Carolina, and Virginia! I have a wonderful supportive husband and five active children! I have two college students, one high school senior, one high school freshman and an elementary fifth grader! We stay busy traveling to their activities all thru the year! Down time is hard to come by but when it does we love the beach and taking cruises.
I’m looking forward to seeing all our students back to our gym and outside spaces! We have many exciting units to teach, games to play, and skills to master! I know this will be a great 2023-2024 school year!

In 2004 Mason earned a BA in Visual Art/Secondary Education from Shepherd University. In 2015, Mason achieved National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Art as well as a MS in Educational Leadership in 2017.
Prior to becoming a teacher, Mason was a musician for 13 years, recording an album with producer John Rollo. Some venues included The Stone Pony, Lions Den, and The Bayou.
Mason chose teaching art as means to stay connected to a creative and expressive lifestyle. Mason believes we are the writer, the pen, and the paper at once; instilling in his students that, as they create, it is they who are the actual work of art.

After 18 years teaching in WV mason is extremely excited to become a creative part of the Cedar Lane Elementary Lion’s family!

Good Monday morning, Lion Nation! I am thrilled to introduce to you a member of our TEAM who really needs no introduction at all, as she has been an incredibly valuable member of our school community throughout my tenure here at Cedar Lane. Mrs. Jenn Thomas has served as our Cedar Lane PTA President and Vice President, she has served as a PALS Tutor in LCPS, Kindergarten Teaching Assistant and a First Grade Teaching Assistant, a dedicated volunteer and now I am honored to introduce her as a First Grade Teacher here at the Lane! Mrs. Thomas has teaching experience both in Fairfax County and Montgomery County, Maryland. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Thomas to our First Grade TEAM!

Jennifer grew up in Gaithersburg, MD and attended Gaithersburg High School. She went to college at Towson University and graduated in 1998, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating college, Jennifer taught 2nd grade for 2 years in Montgomery County and taught 1st grade for 7 years in Fairfax County. After she stopped working full time to stay home with her kids, she tutored elementary students in the evenings. When Jennifer decided to go back to work, she became a PALS tutor at Discovery Elementary for 4 years. She then became a First Grade Assistant at Cedar Lane and last year she was a Kindergarten Assistant at Cedar Lane.
Some Interesting Tidbits:
When Jennifer is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and all her pets. She especially loves spending time with her husband Jason, and their 4 children, Brooke, Savannah, Kaylee and Colin. Brooke is 20 years old and will be a junior in college at JMU. Savannah is 17 years old and will be a senior in high school at Stone Bridge. Kaylee is 15 years old and will be a sophomore in high school at Stone Bridge. Colin is 14 years old and will be in 8th grade at Trailside Middle School. Jennifer loves animals and has lots of pets at her house. She has 4 dogs, 2 cats, a fish, a turtle and a gecko. The turtle is one that her oldest daughter got when she was a 2nd grader here at Cedar Lane. Jennifer loves to travel and is always up for going anywhere. She is trying to visit all 50 states before she turns 50…she has 10 states left! She loves going to the beach, especially the Outer Banks. Jennifer also loves football and you will find her cheering on The Stone Bridge Bulldogs on Friday nights and the Washington Commanders on Sundays, as well as on the sidelines for all her kids sporting events. Jennifer also enjoys cooking, reading and taking her dogs on walks.
Why She Wanted to Become a Teacher:
Jennifer has always wanted to be a teacher, from the time she was a child playing school with her dolls. After being in school all day, she would always rush home to copy what her teachers did that day, but with her dolls. Jennifer had so many wonderful teachers growing up that encouraged her to pursue her dreams and gave her the confidence that she could do anything she put her mind to. Seeing the positive influence that educators had on her and other students in her classes made her want to pursue her dream of being a teacher. They played such an important role in her life in so many ways and she wanted to be able to do that same thing for other children. She has always loved children and has enjoyed working with them in many capacities throughout her life from babysitting, VBS at church, summer camps, Sunday School, tutoring, etc. Jennifer knew that she wanted to make an impact in the lives of children and there’s no better way than to teach them and be involved in the learning process. Each day she works with them, she has the potential to make a lasting impression.
Things to Look Forward To:
Jennifer is looking forward to going back to the classroom and teaching first grade this year! First graders have always held a special place in her heart. It is going to be extra special being at Cedar Lane as she will be teaching at the same school as
all 4 of her kids attended from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. Jennifer has been a part of Cedar Lane and the community for the past 16 years in many different roles. As a parent, she was the PTA president and served on the PTA Board for many years while her kids were going to school here. Now that her kids have gotten older and no longer attend Cedar Lane, she is so excited to come back and take on a different role as a teacher. She can’t wait to meet her first graders that will be in her class this year. She is looking forward to getting to know each of her students and building a relationship with them and their families. She loves the excitement, enthusiasm and love for learning that first graders have. She is so excited to provide meaningful learning opportunities which engage the students in lots of fun and creative hands-on activities. Jennifer is excited to be able to watch them grow throughout the year. Jennifer is excited to continue working with the Cedar Lane family and first grade team to create a classroom and school environment that values the success of each child.

What an awesome group! Today we welcomed our new TEAM members! They walked the red carpet and we all cheered them on! We are blessed to have a great group, I am super excited to begin our journey together!
Good morning, Lion Nation! Happy Friday! I am excited to introduce you to Mrs. Richelle King! Mrs. King will be joining our TEAM as an English Language Teacher and will be with us half time as she will also be working with students at Belmont Station. Please see below some biographical information on our new EL Teacher:

Richelle grew up in Indiana, PA and attended high school there. She attended Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA to play basketball and obtained a degree in Psychology and Elementary Education.
Some interesting tidbits
Richelle has two human children and two furry children. Sarah is 21 & attends Florida Gulf Coast University. Luke is 15 & attends Independence High School. She has a dog, Jedi and a cat, Ross. She enjoys walking with her dog, lifting weights and doing yoga. She enjoys being outside as much as possible except when the weather is cold. 🥶 She enjoys spending time with her family, friends & neighbors and watching her son play football & basketball.
Why She Wanted to Become a Teacher
During high school, she always gravitated towards children, finding them amusing, sweet, innocent and endearing. Any chance to volunteer with children was a taken opportunity. All her summer jobs involved children somehow: camps, babysitting, swimming lessons, etc. She began college as a Psychology major only and after taking Educational Psychology was intrigued with how learning takes place. She then added Elementary education as a minor and decided to pursue that career.
Things to look forward to
Richelle Spent 12 years teaching general education: 6 years teaching fourth grade and 6 years teaching third grade. Last year, she decided to take a leap and change what was comfortable to her and become an EL teacher. She worked with first graders and it was a challenge (very welcomed one) to switch her brain from teaching children “reading to learn” to “learning to read.” She is looking forward to continuing this and implementing the new UFLI program & helping her EL students in other content areas and watching them grow and learn throughout the school year. She is looking forward to meeting and building relationships with her colleagues at Cedar Lane.
