Last week for #😇MerchMonday, I asked you what you call “board games” where you live for a new design I’m working on. Thanks to everyone who has responded so far! 😃 I currently have 29 languages (including English), but I’m still missing some that I think are really important.

I found a website that lists the 25 most spoken languages in the world. These are the ones I don’t have yet:

Scottish Meeple
🗓️ Launched — March 2024
💡 Inspiration: This was the 5th design in my Meeple Countries line. The Scottish flag isn’t in Planet Meeple because Scotland is part of the UK. However, Scotland has its own cultural identity, so when requested it, I granted that request (especially since the Scottish flag was so easy to design). I’ve added more countries since & will add more upon request.

Chocolate? Yes! 🍫 😋

For #😇MerchMonday, I just had to share these custom chocolates that sent me all the way from Belgium! Why? Because I designed their logo about 4 years ago. In fact, theirs was the 1st logo I designed for an Instagram account. It’s been so fun to see how creatively has used their logo over the years, from embroidered shirts to now chocolates. They had these made by a local-to-them Belgian chocolatier called ChocoJa to share with some people at Spiel last fall. When I saw the photo they shared & commented on how cool it was, I never dreamed they’d ship some to me in the US. 🤩I’ve eaten 2 so far & need to share with hubby. I’m torn between eating all or holding one back as a keepsake. What would you do? 🤔

When hubby & I said goodbye to our sweet cat last year, we were able to get a paw print from the vet. 🐾 After searching online for creative ways to use it to remember him, I decided to create my own ornament, based on an idea I found. Getting it made was easy at Zazzle.com.

For #😇MerchMonday, I want to talk about why I sell things on Zazzle. My 1st experience with Zazzle was almost 15 years ago when I was looking for custom gifts. They turned out well, so I bookmarked the site for future reference. Over the next few years, I created some of my own designs for myself & others & finally decided to open a shop in 2018. The 1st 2 designs I offered for sale were a gift for a writer friend & a design I made to wear to the 2017 Science March (SWIPE ⬅️ to see). After joining Instagram in the fall of 2018, I discovered the amazing board game community & launched my 1st game-themed design, Live, Love, Play (SWIPE ⬅️⬅️). Then I decided to focus primarily on game-themed designs.

Why Zazzle instead of another website?
👍🏻 I looked at some other print-on-demand sites, but I preferred Zazzle’s interface. I think it’s fairly user-friendly, which makes my life easier, but also hopefully encourages customers to customize as well. Many of my products allow you to set background colors or add personal text. And you don’t have to have a shop to create your own products for personal purchase (like my paw print ornament).
🛍️ Zazzle has hundreds of products! I’ve selected products for my merch that I think people will be most interested in, but let me know if there’s a different product you want my designs on.
🌎 Zazzle offers several country-specific sites. Products may still ship from the US, and there is no guarantee that prices will be better than what you can get directly from Zazzle’s US site. However, these links give you the opportunity to shop in your own language and currency.

On my 1st #😇MerchMonday of the new year, I’m sharing the most popular design of 2024: Out of nowhere, Gaming Culture (aka I Build Civilizations in a Day) had an incredible resurgence in my Amazon US shop! 😮 I launched this design almost 4.5 years ago, but it never got much attention until midway through last year. No one on Instagram has ever shared having purchased it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sales have steadily come in, & my 1st sale of the new year was this design on January 1! I wish I knew how it was getting so much traction so that I could share more of my designs there. This is one of 3 designs I made to celebrate civilization-style games, like an old favorite of mine: 7 Wonders. I know most of us want to save our limited budgets for actual games rather than merch, so that makes it all the more special to me when you include me in your purchasing. 🥰

2024 sales weren’t quite as good as 2023, but I know a lot of people have struggled in the current economy, so I can understand dialing back on fun things. But because of the purchases that were made, I will still be able to send some money to IRAP, , as part of my commitment to donating 10% of my gross income on merch sales. It’s important to me to give back, & I choose IRAP because I have customers all over the world, & I think helping people who have been displaced from their homes is the right thing to do. Plus, the US was built by immigrants, & I think we’re stronger when we welcome all with open arms. 🌎🌍🌏

For #😇MerchMonday, I’m sharing the photos I collected with all the amazing people I got to see & hang out with at ! This was my 3rd year in a row attending & the 2nd where hubby joined me. I think it’s safe to say this has become an annual tradition. 😀

On Thursday, I wore Modern Meeple 🎨 (though it barely made it into the featured photo). 🤦🏻‍♀️ On Friday, I wore Let It Snow Board Games. ❄️ On Saturday, I wore Give Me Games for the Holidays. 🎁 On Sunday, I wore Social Media Board Gamer. 📸 And today I realized that I basically repeated my weekend wardrobe from last year. 😆 Time to get some more sweatshirts for myself!

I was not on my marketing A game this weekend because I did not get many good photos of people wearing my merch. 🙄 Scott of was wearing a Piece, Love & Polyominoes hat on Thursday when he snapped this photo of him, me, Adri of , Kristen of .BoardGaming (who was wearing Party Time Meeple), Laura of & Ryan of .ObsessedWithBoardGames. On Saturday, I did get a decent photo of Nathan of wearing Social Media Board Gamer (Slide 2️⃣). 😊 Though I missed him wearing American Meeple on Sunday. 😟

Also have to give a shout-out to who generously gifted me blue meeple earrings when I met her at PAX-U in 2022. ☺️ I wore them for 2 days this weekend. For #😇MerchMonday, I’m excited to share the latest logo I designed. This was for Gareth & PJ of . Gareth of lives in the UK 🇬🇧 & PJ of lives in the US 🇺🇸, but distance didn’t stop them from joining forces to create a podcast together a little over 2 years ago. 🙌🏻 Earlier this year, they were approaching 1000 followers & their 100th episode & decided it would be cool to get a more professional logo. We’ve all been following each other for some time, & last year I had the pleasure of meeting each of them in person — Gareth at the UK Games Expo & PJ at Gen Con. So I was thrilled & honored when they asked me to do their logo. 💓

💡 The main idea they wanted to get across was 2 meeples forming a bridge together. Since they live on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, I thought it made sense to make a literal bridge between the 2 countries. We went through a few iterations, mostly just refining the meeple shapes & adjusting the colors for optimal readability.

Recently, I discovered these glass hexagon ornaments on Zazzle, & I thought it would make the perfect wedding gift with my Meeples in Love design for my lovely Instapal Jacqueline of , who I was able to visit in September. When the ornament arrived, it looked even better in person than I expected, so I knew I had to add them to my shop. For #😇MerchMonday, I’m excited to share my newest design: Easy Playin’ Board Games. A couple of weeks ago, I asked everyone which meeple silhouette style they preferred, & it was unanimous that the meeples should have a hint of arms, so here’s the final design. This originally started as part of my Star Gamer design, but after showing my idea to Nat of & then Dennis of , they both encouraged me to separate the silhouettes from the night sky. So I got 2 designs out of one concept! 😃
