Sebastopols, Silkies, Serama && more "Love what you do, and you'll never work a day in your life."

Had a woman a week or so ago tell me she didnt want to buy our eggs because we feed mealworms. And to this day it boggles my mind. If someone raises chickens regardless of what they feed them 90% of the time theyre digging for their own bugs. Amphibians or small mammals/rodents. Unless theyre raised off the ground and in a covered environment, theyre catching bugs. 🤦🏻‍♀️😭

I mean unless im missing something about mealworms specifically?

Good morning!
I didnt get to share the father's day babies yesterday. After loosing the sebbie baby. My heart just wasnt in it. Hopefully yesterday isnt a sign of what the week is to come.

I emptied the incubator late last night.
Low and behold 19 beautiful babies started their lives there. Life begins where death once was. ❤️ it doesnt change the sting of my boy, but im trying to not let it take over how much I love this hatch. We have 6 or 7 beautiful seramas and 12ish silkies. Many mottled including one that looks like its mauve mottled. ❤️ the excitement to see some of the first mottled babies, from eggs from birds on your farm. Priceless.

What projects are you guys working on?

Trying to find some sort of beauty in today. Regardless of how crappy it started.

Some days just knock the wind out of you. We lost the largest of the sebastopol goslings with seemingly no warning. My heart and soul ache right now and I dont even know what to say. I was so proud of how this group was doing.

This blows to say the very least of things.

Have some grace for each other, you never know what we are dealing with behind the scenes.

Im sorry my big guy. 💔 this isnt fair.

Beautiful little cockeral. 5ish weeks old. Outside, off heat completely and he goes into a mini coop for bed time. He hatched from a blue egg, and is essentially from our "fibro egger" project. I believe ayam cemani x amerucana . I was REALLY really hoping this was a pullet.

Neat coloring white with grey/blue/tan with grey legs.

Perfect age for you to raise your next flock leader your way!

Fibro egger rooster (ayam cemanin x)
He is NOT located on the farm but is a bird someone purchased and can not keep because he turned out to be a he.

12-14 weeks old(if i remember correctly). He has black skin, black feathers and I believe some gold lacing down his chest.

Just started crowing. Im sure hes a good boy, we havent ever been told that any boys from our birds were anything orher than good boys.

Located in Templeton Massachusetts (assuming he would be picked up there). Happy to put you in touch with his owner who would arrange things.

Happy father's day yalll!!
🙀

Our watermelon weekend was such a hit by the time I went to put everyone to bed ALLLL the birds were covered in juice. Hahaha im glad they enjoyed themselves. Literally everyone from tiny babies in the brooders, to every single flock, and daisy our handiquack had themselves quite the treat. I also "accidently" set some mottled silkie and serama eggs in the incubator. 🤷 but theyre mostly for myself so it doesnt count right? Im making some tough decisions for 2027 as well, I have to decide if im going to bring back any sort of LF to hatch spring of 2027. I still have a strong urge to reduce. Refocus and work on just what truly brings the most joy to my soul. Silkies & sebastopols predominantly.

Ill never understand why people don't want roosters (not those of you that cant big difference) the relationship between a rooster and his hens is something priceless. Our mottled boy was over the moon to tell the ladies about tonight's watermelon.
