The GT40 intake has to be one of the sexiest factory intakes ever conceived. Doll it up with the cermet coating and it's serious eye candy whether you're into the bling or not. The cermet coating is a fantastic cosmetic/protective coating. Compared to polished aluminum/billet, the cermet coating is more resistant to tarnishing and staining, is much easier to maintain the polished finish and is resistant to all automotive chemicals...and all that for about one half to a third the price of having your aluminum polished on a buffing wheel.

More than a pretty face. The cermet coating is still the best thermal barrier, most durable and offers the best corrosion protection and stain resistance of all the ceramic exhaust coatings we offer. The Cerakote exhaust coatings (matte black, titanium, silver, gold and cast gray/tungsten) have a slightly higher max service temperature (1800F compared to 1600F for cermet), but are inferior to cermet in most every other characteristic of performance. The cermet coating can also be used as a base coat underneath the Cerakote coatings if a polished finish is not desired but improved thermal barrier performance and corrosion protection are needed.

I'd say this example of tunnel ram goodness pretty much meets the definition of sinister (in matte black powder).

Header Theory Dyno Test

Very cool video done by Popular Hot Rodding that demonstrates how effective the ceramic-metallic (cermet) coating is at reducing radiant heat by comparing the same header in coated and uncoated configuration during dyno pulls (FF to the 5:00 mark for the coated/uncoated comparison). There is going to be some emissivity error with the infra-red thermometer they’re using in that video, so in reality the temperature differential is likely more on the order of 80-90% of the 500 degree delta they measured (approximately 400-450 degrees). Regardless, that’s still significant and certainly is enough to provide a considerable reduction in heat soak of all under hood components, heat transfer into the cabin or onto the rider if on a motorcycle.
