It may have been a very hot Arizona September day but we were proud to host our first blood drive to give recognition to the 25th Anniversary of 9/11. Never Forget.

We are now halfway through the DAR Month of Service initiative and are already so excited to see the meaningful ways that Daughters around the country are serving their communities! Don’t forget to enter your service hours in the Service to America Online Tally and submit your service story and service photos for potential inclusion on the National Society website and social media channels!

We look forward to seeing the ways you are celebrating America250! through service throughout DAR Month of Service. Learn how to submit hours and service stories on Today’s DAR Blog, here: dar.org/DARMonthofService

Let Freedom Ring!

Ocotillo Chapter members are celebrating Constitution Day and Bells Across America. Our members are wearing ribbons with bells as a reminder of the freedoms protected by our Constitution.

On September 17 at 1:00 p.m. Arizona time, join us in ringing a bell for one minute to honor our Constitution and the principles upon which our nation was founded.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

On Patriot Day, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the heroes who showed us the power of courage, compassion, and service.

Today also marks the beginning of DAR’s Month of Service. Ocotillo Chapter is honoring this day by giving back through a blood drive—because one donation can save a life, and one life can make a difference.

Remember. Honor. Serve.

On Women’s Equality Day, we honor DAR member Alice Paul, a pioneering suffragist who helped secure women’s right to vote and later championed the Equal Rights Amendment. Her connection to DAR reflects a shared commitment to preserving history, civic engagement, and advancing women’s equality.

Help Arizona DAR support military families by donating paper plates, cups, napkins, or plastic utensils.

Email: [email protected] if you have any donations prior to August 20. We will happily pick up to drop off in Tucson.

Your donations will support the Tucson Fisher House, a “home away from home” for families of Veterans and active-duty service members receiving care at the Tucson VA Medical Center.

Every contribution makes a difference and helps provide comfort and support to military families during a challenging time.

Today we observe Purple Heart Day, recognizing the recipients of the Purple Heart, the oldest U.S. military decoration still awarded to service members.

Originally established by General George Washington as the Badge of Military Merit on August 7, 1782, the award was revived in 1932 as the Purple Heart. Today, it is presented to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are wounded or killed in action while serving our nation.

💜 We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

Today, we honor the courageous women of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), whose service during World War II helped shape the future of military aviation.

More than 1,000 civilian women answered the call to serve by flying military aircraft, testing planes, towing targets, and ferrying aircraft across the country, freeing male pilots for combat duty.

On August 4, we honor the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard, established in 1790 as the Revenue Marine Service by Alexander Hamilton.

Thank you to the brave Coast Guard members, past and present, who protect our shores, save lives, and safeguard our nation's maritime interests.
