We just received word that Gary Erickson passed away over the weekend. Those of you that were Reynolds Music customers probably met Gary when you came in for lessons or picked up music books. Gary stayed with the store through the transition to Schmitt Music before retiring in March of 2020. He stopped by the store regularly to see how things were going and to talk about drums and cars, two of his favorite things.

Schmitt Music Anoka – formerly Reynolds Music – is proud to support the music community in the northern Twin Cities suburbs!
"We are thrilled to bring our unique products, services, and expertise even closer to our friends in the Anoka area." – Tom Schmitt, 4th-generation owner and president of Schmitt Music
For over 40 years, Reynolds Music served the Anoka area under the direction of late founder and owner, John Reynolds. Sadly, John passed away last year.
When Schmitt Music learned that the store’s assets were to be sold, we were curious to find out more. We are excited that Schmitt Music was the winning bidder to own and operate the former Reynolds Music, starting November 18, 2019.
We knew that Reynolds employees do good work and contribute to our local musical community, and we feel it’s important to help them remain in the music business for as long as possible.
As advocates for the Anoka-Hennepin music programs, Schmitt Music is eager to further support students, families, and educators to the best of our ability.
We hope to see you soon!

As many of you know, John Reynolds, the founder and owner of Reynolds Music, passed away New Years Eve of 2018. One of his last wishes was that Reynolds Music would stay open. Since that time the store has been operated by the employees under the supervision of the executor of his estate, Jim Jensen. It was an arrangement that worked, but could not continue forever. The store was put up for sale last spring, and there was immediate interest. As time went on some potential buyers dropped out, and others were only interested in buying the store with the intent of taking over rental contracts and selling off everything else and shutting the store down. There was only one potential buyer that made it clear all along that they were interested in buying the store and keeping it open to continue to serve the northern suburbs. Jim has been negotiating with that buyer for a number of months, and it is now official. As of November 18th 2019, Schmitt Music has purchased Reynolds Music. All of the current staff has been retained, so we will continue to do our best to provide the same great service we were known for. Thank you for supporting Reynolds Music for the past 41 years; we hope you will continue to think of us as your hometown music store.

More Anoka Hennepin Middle School Instrument Displays!
Tuesday 9/10 - Oakview 4 - 7
Wednesday 9/11 - C**n Rapids 3:30 - 6
Thursday 9/12 - Northdale 4:30 - 7
Reynolds Music will be there, but if you can't make it to your schools' display (or want to avoid the crowds), stop by our store. We are open until 8pm those nights.
It's Back To School, which also means the start of a new year for beginning band and orchestra. This week the instrument displays will be at Weds. 9/4 from 3;30 - 6 at Anoka Middle School, Fred Moore Campus, and Thurs. 9/5 from 4 - 7 at Roosevelt Middle School. If you need an instrument but can't make it your school instrument display night, stop by our store! We will be open until 8 pm both nights.
At Reynolds Music, we do our best to be helpful, whether it's answering questions, diagnosing a problem or simply tuning a stringed instrument. Most of the time, we don't charge for those things - even if it's an instrument from another store - and people really seem to appreciate it. If that's something that's important to you, please remember us during the upcoming instrument rental season. If you have conflicts on the night of your school display, or simply want to avoid the crowds, you can stop in at our store and we'll be happy to take care of you. We hope to see you soon!
The final week before school starts again for Anoka-Hennepin students is here! If you need a band or orchestra instrument for a beginning student, please come see us. Monthly rates start at $32.
If your child will be playing in the band or orchestra in one of the Anoka-Hennepin schools and you're looking for an instrument to rent, please come see us. Our rates are $32/ month for most instruments, $54/month for saxophones, oboes and cellos, and $74/month for basses. One benefit of stopping in at our store to rent is that your next payment (after the initial one month down payment) will not be due until October. There is another benefit to renting at our store -besides not having to fight the crowds at the Display Night - a music stand at no charge! We hope to see you soon.
We want to let everyone know about this event! It is a benefit for Dawn Necas (Nelson), who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Dawn's daughter Emily took lessons at our store for many years, and both Dawn and Emily had stopped in earlier this summer. Please think about attending and/or donating to the silent auction.
We had someone stop in this morning with 2 string bass bags that they had found draped over the railing in the parking ramp behind the store. There's no identification of any kind on either bag, and we've been trying to figure out what happened - were they left by accident? Were the basses stolen and the bags left behind? All theories are welcome; or better yet, if you are their owner, let us know!

Excellent Educator: Anoka Middle School Teacher Brings Fun To Orchestra Class WCCO This Morning visited Anoka to surprise a teacher who is getting kids to give orchestra a try, Kim Johnson reports (2:38). WCCO This Morning – May 15, 2019
Going through some boxes here at the store I found a program for a concert that was before my time, but John Reynolds was heavily involved.
Our website and email are back!
I'm going to resist the urge to say something clever like "We're Beginning to See the Light!" at Reynolds Music. Instead, a couple of photos - Before, on the left, and After:
Reynolds Music is in an old building, and the the old fluorescent lighting system was from the 70's, at least. Fixtures in the old system had failed and couldn't be replaced. So last fall, Mr. Reynolds gave the go-ahead on replacing the old lights with a new LED system. The new light panels had to be ordered, then shipped, and finally installed. We knew it would be a few months before the project would be completed; what we didn't know was that Mr. Reynolds would not be around for its completion. In one of my last conversations with him, he asked how the project was coming. I told him that it was still a ways off, but that we had figured out the layout for the panels, and that we wouldn't need as many panels because the new ones would be so much brighter. He nodded, and I expected him to say something like "it should be brighter with what it's costing me!" Instead, he said "It should look nice". John, I have to agree with you. Thanks for getting the project started, and I wish you were here to see it finished. Thanks also to Jason Pawelsky at EAG-LED for putting the whole project together.
We're moving along with the new website. More to come!
