The library will be closed today (Saturday, January 14) due to weather conditions. Just a reminder, APL is always closed on Mondays and will be closed Tuesday, January 17 for MLK, Jr. Day. The library will reopen on Wednesday, January 18.

Calling All Student Artists!
One Dozen Who Care, Inc., in collaboration with Nantahala Regional Library and its branch libraries, invite students in kindergarten through 12th grade who live in Cherokee, Clay, or Graham Counties to create a bookmark for the Purel Miller African American Book Collection (PMAABC) which is housed at Andrews Public Library and the Black History Month Reading Challenge which promotes the PMAABC. Children of all ages are invited to watch a holiday movie, make a craft, and go on a scavenger hunt at the library. Movie is rated TV-G and is 22 minutes long. For more information, contact Bridget at 828-837-2025 or the library at 828-321-5956.

1. Obtain a Coloring Sheet
• Pick up one at your local library.
• Email [email protected] to have the sheets sent to you via email.
• Download them from Google Drive: https://bit.ly/3VI4HPs

2. Color the sheet with the medium of your choice (crayons, colored pencils, markers, gel pens, etc.). Do NOT put your name on your coloring sheet.

3. Email a scan/photo of the completed coloring sheet along with the name of the person who colored it and the library branch they use to [email protected] by 11:59pm on Thursday, December 15. Note: You will receive a reply to your entry email. If you don’t, contact your library or Bridget at 828-837-2025. That’s the letter L in the email address not the number 1. Coloring Sheets that are turned in at the libraries will NOT be entered in the contest. If you need assistance scanning/photographing your coloring sheet or sending the email, library staff will be more than happy to help.

4. Library staff will vote on all the entries. There will be one winner in each age category at each branch. If there are less than 20 entries at each branch, entries will be voted on as a whole across the library system with one winner in each age group. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 20 on Facebook and prizes will be available for pickup at the libraries on Wednesday, December 21.

ecoEXPLORE’s Mammalogy Season takes place in November & December! Children in grades K-8 can pick up an Mammalogy Season Passive Program at their local library any time during these 2 months. You can also email Bridget at [email protected] and she'll send you the handout via email.
“ecoEXPLORE (Experiences Promoting Learning Outdoors for Research and Education) is an incentive-based citizen science program for children in grades K-8. Developed by The North Carolina Arboretum, this innovative program combines science exploration with kid-friendly technology to foster a fun learning environment for children while encouraging them to explore the outdoors and participate in citizen science.”
