Love walking in my old neighborhood! #AnokaCountyEarthDay
Bunker Hills Park. Take a walk bike skateboard and do the 🌍 Day thing!
Hey folks, I see a lot of talk about improving infrastructure on this page and that is wonderful! I work at 42 Northern Stacks Drive at Dero, a local bike rack manufacturer. I along with many of my co-workers bike into work along Marshall and up the to East River Road. As the speed limit increases to 55 MPH this is a treacherous route with cars passing close as we bike along the shoulder in the summer. With winter upon us, the shoulder gets narrower and rutted with ice and piles of snow, giving us less space to maneuver, as well as pushing us into traffic at times.
Across the street there is a lovely looking bike path, but it has not been maintained and signs were recently posted about "riding at our own risk." It appears many folks have done just that, creating lots of icy ruts on that trail as well, which can lead to falls and injury.
Please consider the safety of those who commute into work or ride for fun in this area. We are smaller, and more vulnerable and need the cities to step up to help keep us safe. Even posting signage along both sides of this high-speed corridor may be helpful (be aware/cautious of cyclists/give room for cyclists etc). No one wants to be hurt or worse on their way to or from work, and I believe you have the power to facilitate safety along this stretch of road and path.
Natalia Mendez Dero
If you aren't maintaining the bike path along E River Road, what is your suggested detour for folks that bike commute from downtown to the Northern Stakes. I work at Dero and along with many of my coworkers I ride in everyday. Since the path is not being plowed that has forced us to ride the shoulder of East River where it is narrowed by the construction and the speed limit is 55 (drivers go well over this). In my opinion you did not consider cyclists' safety when choosing to not maintain a bike path during the season a safe route is needed most! Please reconsider this decision.

As Earth Day arrives again on Friday, April 22, Metro Transit is observing the occasion by powering the all-electric vehicles in its fleet with wind energy from Xcel Energy's WindSource® program.

While taking any of our transit routes is always a greener and more sustainable option, this is an annual effort to highlight the energy-efficiency of METRO Blue and Green Line light rail trains and METRO C Line buses. Also, a fully electric bus will be running up and down Nicollet Ave. from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Earth Day. Free to ride, so give it a try!

The ongoing Zero Emissions Bus Transition Plan will greatly increase the number of battery electric buses in our fleet. There are solar arrays at several Park & Ride lots, and other sustainability innovations have led to a marked increase in energy-efficiency at Metro Transit bus garages.

Thank you for helping Metro Transit celebrate Earth Day by riding with us! metrotransit.org/earth-day
