Shout out to UDE for the amazing job they did to make our daughter's wedding so special! First, I'd like to say that Amber sold me immediately with her friendly, professional manner. I had checked with another popular catering company, who seemed less than interested in meeting our needs! Throughout the 6 months of planning, I never felt at any point that I was bothering Amber or any of the other staff that I spoke with. We had an outdoor wedding with 330 guests and the menu included appetizers: caprese skewers, proscuitto wrapped asparagus, deluxe cheese and cracker tray and veggie tray. The meal included a whole roasted pig, carved prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with bacon, glazed carrots, tossed salad and rolls. It was outstanding and I have heard from many of our guests that the meal was one of the best they have ever had at a wedding! A special thanks to Ken and Sheila, who were our cooks! They were so kind and thoughtful- we honestly felt like they were part of the family!:) The rest of the crew that came out were awesome too! I could not have asked for a better quality meal or service! I would recommend this company in a minute for anyone with catering needs!
I have never been more disappointed with customer service than I have been with Unique Dining and Catering. As someone that works in customer service, I find it so sad to put another family owned business down. They catered my wedding at Bloom Lake barn because it was Bloom Lakes exclusive catering company. We did a group tasting with Unique at their facility and my husband and I were less than impressed by their foods. The meats were dry. We did find the pulled pork very nice and were very satisfied with picking that as our meal for the day of our wedding. We decided on buffet style with 250 guests and plastic plates. Our menu was:
Cheese/meat tray with crackers
Fruit tray
Roasted pig (onsite)
Garden salad (French, blue cheese, and Caesar dressing)
Garlic mashed potatoes
Mac and Cheese- Gouda
Green Beans
Rootbeer Keg
We gave Unique a budget of $7500 and that was to include a tip for the servers. This menu came out at $9052.03. This did not include tips for the servers but it did include $50 per server per hour (6 people were assigned to work our wedding) and a 15% service charge. I brought up my concerns of the tips, the service charge, and the over all price to Unique and Frank, their lead, got it touch with me. After our conversation my meal price was $7934.44. Unique changed the service charge to 10%, they paid for the plates, and they changed how long the servers would be there. I was very pleased and hopeful that Unique was making things right.

Fast forward to the day of our wedding.

Unique made a phenomenal pig roast, but that is where anything phenomenal ended. Here is the email that I had to send to Unique because of the disappointment we had at our wedding.

I know I have emailed before with my disappointments and I hate being that person but here I am again, disappointed by Unique Catering. The pig roast was delightful and well done beyond that I can say I was fully let down. The list below explains the many disappointing things that Unique did to make my Husband and I question once again if Bloom Lake Barn was the correct fit for us.
To start it off, right as the ceremony started someone with Unique decided it was a good time to start a van up and move it. We even started the ceremony a few minutes late so there was no excuse for that timing.
After the ceremony ended a little later than planed we had a few pictures to take still. We were using the bar upstairs as a backdrop during the happy hour that was happening in the bottom of the barn. The bartender decided to start carrying alcohol up the stairs and dropped it on the bar while photos were taking place. When my Mrs. of Ceremony approached him and told him we had a few more pictures. He responded that this was the time line he was given. I do agree we were running 15-20 minutes behind schedule but that does happen with weddings.
My family, in a frantic panic of rain, put our coolers behind the bar downstairs. During the ceremony Unique was trying to set up the bar downstairs. The coolers were in their way. Instead of moving them to a different location or finding someone to take care of them, they threw them into the middle of our happy hour spot.
During happy hour, which my Husband and I did not attend, food was misplaced and pitiful. We paid for artisan cheese and meat plates and a fruit tray for 234 people. One tray of crackers was served and one tray of cheese/meat was served. The tray was placed in the far back corner by the pool table where there were cobwebs. My Matron of Honor knew we were having food and had looked for it before asking a server where it was. She then decided a better location for it and within minutes, the trays were empty. It did not seem like 234 servings of cheese, meat, or crackers. Needless to say the fruit never made it to the happy hour.
The fruit was later found during the buffet in a bowl looking like frozen fruit that had come out of the freezer earlier that day.
Moving on to actual dinner.
As one of the guests of honor I went first to get my food. I was so excited to dig in because I figured that you had nailed it at this point because we have worked so hard on communicating and getting things right.
I first got to a salad that had the wrong dressings on the side. I had picked both my Husbands favorite dressing and my favorite dressings. We had gone over the kind of dressing I wanted multiple times.
As I sat down to eat I bit into green beans that were chewy, oily, and flavorless. Mashed Potatoes that had not a hint of garlic to them or any flavor at all. And finally Mac and Cheese that was flavored with smokiness no salt and no cheese and the texture of over cooked noodles. This would have been perfectly fine if that was what I had tasted, agreed to, and paid for. As I stated in an early conversation with Unique I thought the quality during our tasting was poor besides the foods that we had picked for our meal. We were excited for what we picked because it was good, flavorful, and satisfying. This meal was nothing like the meal that we tried at your venue. I left most of the food sitting on my plate and other guest had complained about the food being cold. My husband agreed that the quality of food was far lacking from what we had originally tried.
Once again way to go on the amazing pulled pork. It was truly delicious.
After dinner was finished my family and guest helped buss the tables. Your staff never came around to clear plates.
I'm truly sorry that this email had to be written. I hope that we can come to an agreement on what should be done to make this better. I can say for certain that right now I would never recommend Unique Catering and I would honestly have poor things to say. Unique’s service actually makes Bloom Lake Barn a less desirable place to get married.

With Great Disappointment,

Kellie Hudson
*Side note they had never told my guests about the Root Beer keg and I’m pretty sure the only people that got any was my husband and I. They should have had a sign but I forgot to mention it to them.

They responded on July 13th, 2017 with:

Hi Kellie,

First of congratulations to you and David, and thank you for expressing your concerns with us. Myself and the team got together to discuss, please see my notes below.

1. I was able to confirm that the meat and cheese tray was not what it should have been, and I know how important this piece was. Because of this, we will be refunding the full amount for this tray.

2. It was confirmed that the fruit was overlooked at cocktail hour, which I do apologize for. We will be refunding $150.00 for this as well.

3. This leaves us a grand total refund of $1,083.66, and again, we apologize for those oversights. What address would you like the refund check mailed to?

4. As for the busing, this wasn’t an agreed upon service which is why there was a lack of clean up at tables.

Thanks for the feedback Kellie and please let me know what address we can mail the check to.

It is now Aug 7th 2017, and I have not received the check that they agreed upon sending. Yes we did not agree upon bussing but it is not stated in the contract that they do not buss tables. When I brought this up to them they still did not care. Needless to say Unique has the worst customer service I have ever experience. If you want a flawless day and wonderful food there are so many other catering companies I would recommend.
