Geigan C. Locke
About the Author
Geigan C.
Locke is a self-published American author whose work explores the world of emergency services, the people who dedicate their lives to it, and the ethical challenges from within the industry.
Today, I had the privilege of sitting down with some incredible people to talk about the book, life, family, and everything in between. Joining me were the mother of a New Hampshire paramedic I’ve known since before kindergarten, and a Firefighter/Paramedic from NH.
I’m truly grateful for their time, their support, their honesty, and their kindness.
Days like today remind me that there are still good, decent people in this world, and maybe even in NH EMS.
Thank you!

Time to pull back the curtain…
Ever since Reflections of an Invisible Duck hit the market, I’ve been getting the same questions:
“Who’s who?”
“Is that who I think it is?”
“Am I in it?”
So, in the spirit of transparency (and limited liability), I’m hosting an Author’s Lunch on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025.
This will be a minimal gathering — five seats at most. No real patient information will be shared, and an NDA may or may not be involved. After all, some names were changed to protect the guilty.
Attendees will be selected at random from people local to the New England area. Leave a message here or send a DM to add your name to the pool.

Review from an experienced and respected emergency services professional in New Hampshire.
Thank you, sir.
"Full disclosure: I listened to this on Audible. And I have one word to describe this book.
Wow.
To put it mildly, this book was a gut punch. It was based on a true story which occurred in a New England town. While I don’t know the events that this is based on, much of the observations made by the author hit home. As for the details, I’m not going to share any spoilers. What I will say, however, is that the author got it right.
Regarding the author, I have no idea who this person is. That said, they are an incredibly talented writer. This story is incredibly well-written, plus any loose ends that exist are resolved at the end of the novel. There were multiple parts of the narrative where I could not control the tears or the laughter. That in itself is indicative of a quality piece of writing.
I highly recommend this book"

'When Don’s remains were finally moved to the waiting vehicle, no one spoke. No one moved. The mood was reverent, their unspoken grief filling the air as each offered a private benediction in honor of a man for whom the word respect served no justice.
Rest easy, Father. We’ll take it from here.'

I’ll be running some ebook and audiobook promotions as a thank-you to the dedicated first responder community. Your work, every day, matters.
As for the morally ambiguous instructors uncovered during the research for this novel—consider it a thoughtful gift in place of the Coldplay tickets you were lucky enough to miss out on.

By 0800, rescue became recovery.
Firefighter/Paramedic Don Warren was no longer missing. His body was found in the basement of the collapsed structure, two floors below and twenty-five feet from his last known position. The next hour dragged as the Medical Examiner’s staff and State Fire Marshals documented the scene with painstaking care. While their professionalism was beyond reproach, Garland Fire members struggled with their emotions. Bitter glares and tense movements betrayed what none of them dared to say: Get him the hell out of there.

Many readers—and more than one EMS agency—have asked which state(s) inspired some of the less-than-savory characters in this book.
To them, I say this: if we all know these people, why are they still allowed to behave this way?
Push for a higher standard. Promote professionalism. Embrace ethics. Don’t hide behind the image.
These characters weren’t exaggerated for dramatic effect—they were toned down to remain believable. They continue to teach and practice without consequence, despite being known to state agencies and sponsoring institutions, all of whom looked the other way.
The story is set in New England, as shown through the dates and facts woven into the book. And as for which state produced people like Jayson Rayne—or instructors who proudly text about the oral skills of female students…
Welcome to New Hampshire.
It’s a tragedy that individuals like this are allowed to tarnish the work and reputations of everyone around them.
