The next CKB series of Train Alta is kicking off on February 26th! Start your journey to the cage, and after weeks 20 weeks and 100 lessons of transformational mixed martial arts training, you will make the walk to the fight to take on the challenge of a lifetime!

At an unregulated amateur fight in Michigan, Alan Grays squared up with Jose Johnston. The bout was stopped, but it was not for reasons that have not previously been a part of MMA records keeping. Part of Grays' anatomy rolled away - his eye - as you can see in the video lower down in the story.

The eye was - THANK HEAVENS - prosthetic, as can be seen in the fact that it rolled in a circle, rather than a straight line. Human eyes are circular, and thus would tend to roll straight; prosthetic eyes are more oblong, and would roll as seen.

And it must be said that Grays fighting without an eye shows a notable degree of c courage, as depth perception is compromised with one eye. Many years later, the gallant Michael Bisping would go on to compete at the highest levels of MMA, with just one functioning eye.

At Atlas Fighting Championship 4 in Biloxi, Mississippi, professional welterweight Rance Jones Jr faced debuting pro Dion Rizzuto. Rizzuto apparently suffered a cauliflower ear during training, but didn't have it packed or drained. When Jones landed a left to Rizzuto's left ear, it earxploded.

The referee stopped the bout at just 36 seconds of the first round, as you can see lower down in the story.

At Xplode Fight Series: Tidal Wave, in Valley Center, CA, USA, Christine Stanley kicked Katie Anita Runyan 2.3 seconds into the fight. At 3.5 seconds, Runyan hit the floor. And the referee ruled it over at the potentially record-breaking 5-second mark. Stanley trained with Liz Carmouche and other great fighters at San Diego Combat Academy. The kick that landed, a spinning hook kick, is known in muay Thai as Jarakae Fad Hang (Crocodile Whips Its Tail).

At British Challenge MMA (BCMMA) 9, featherweight Theo “300” Michailidis survived everything Corrin Eaton had, in what many called one of the best single round fights of the year. Then the Greek fighter turned the bout around, permanently, with a spinning hellbow from, well, hell, as you can see in the video further below in this story.

At Cage Warriors 74, in London's Olympic village, Joseph Duffy, who had previously beaten Conor McGregor in 38 seconds, faced French fighter Julien Boussuge. Of note, the fight before he beat McGregor, Duffy beat Norman Parke, and the fight before that he beat Terry Etim!
In fighting, and life, timing can be everything. Duffy showed eerie timing, initiating the knee seemingly at the identical moment Boussuge began his level change; the two met in the middle. So Duffy didn't so much face his opponent, as knee him in the face. Duffy showed great sportsmanship, pulling two shots that were there. For his part, Boussuge slept through the ending of the story, as seen in the video lower down.
Boussuge never fought again. But Duffy's next fight he became one of countless Cage Warriors vets who went on the UFC. Duffy fought in The Big Show for five years, retiring in 2020.

In the main event of XFC International 3 in São Paulo, Brazil, Luis "Sapo" Santos squared off with Alfredo Morales. At 1:34 of Round 3 Sapo drove a front snap kick right up the middle, and Morales dropped like a stone.

The front snap kick is the first kick taught in most karate schools. However, in the first decade and a half of mixed martial arts, the kick was widely believed to be of no notable importance. However, in 2011 Anderson Silva landed one on Vitor Belfort to devastating effect, and months later Lyoto Machida landed a Karate Kid-style Crane jumping front kick on Randy Couture. When UFC president Dana White went to speak with Couture, a tooth fell out. Karate (and the front snap kick) were back.

It must be said that Sapo needed no inspiration to use the kick - he knew it his entire life. After fighting from 2000-2019, he currently coaches at American Top Team headquarters in Coconut Creek, Florida, USA, and is married to fellow fighter Carina Damm.

Please note, the front push kick remained in use from the beginning of MMA, and before for generations of Vale Tudo in Brazil, and since time immemorial in Muay Thai, among other combat sports.

At Say Uncle Fight Night 2 at The Octagon in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK, Veronica Macedo landed a massive head kick on Chrissy Audin, ending the fight at just 0:24 of Round 1. As Macedo raised her arms, Audin dropped like a felled mighty timber. Audin fought only once more, for a regional title. Macedo fought on, and has been competing in the UFC since 2016. She recently married former UFC welterweight title challenger and expert broadcast analyst Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.
