We’ve been doing a deep dive into R&D for an emerging womenswear designer. In this part of the process, no idea is a bad idea. My Dad used to refer to this part of any creative process as a “Jam Session”. So we developed over 100 silhouette variations for them to choose from. So fun! Edits come next 🖊

Tech Packs are one of the most important documents you’ll need to begin your manufacturing journey. Do you know what they contain? Digitizing paper patterns today in the studio. I find this process so rewarding. Typically this step is done once a client has fit tested their sample, made all final edits, and are gearing up for scale manufacturing. We send their digital patterns to our manufacturing or cutting partners that use CNC cutting tables to cut bulk orders. It’s exciting for both the client and for us to see it all come together!

FAQ: What is R&D? Do I need it? Answer: It depends. Often times clients come to us with an idea but don't know how to express it. Research and Design is a 2 part process that's goal is to offer multiple renderings for you to choose from before moving into Technical Design. The R&D process varies based on the needs of the product. We also offer Research into the market giving you insight on how to develop a unique product offering. It is a very valuable service that can save you money in the end by helping you edit your thoughts before beginning the labor and cost intensive process of preparing for manufacturing.
