READ-IN 📚⛓️‍💥
Bring your favorite banned book or one from your TBR, or choose one from our display! Sit and read for as long as you like. We will also have banned book trivia scattered around the room to test your banned book knowledge! Get at least 5 trivia questions right or answer our featured question correctly to get your choice of a free ARC (advanced reading copy) or a coupon to Chapterhouse Bookstore.

LETTER WRITING ✍️
Write to your reps about the three federal book banning bills making their way through legislation, or the numerous state bills that have been passed or proposed. Let your representatives know that the Freedom to Read is a priority and an issue that could affect their (re)election! Letter writing materials and representative info will be provided.

Are you familiar with Super Readable books?

These are formatted and written for teens and younger readers with dyslexia, low reading levels, or ESL readers. The maturity level is age appropriate while the reading level remains accessible (High/Low).

Most have a low page count with short paragraphs and chapters, larger text, and often extra white space or illustrations on the page to make them less intimidating.

They also use a dyslexic friendly font and color contrast, and get straight to the point without a ton of flowery or abstract language.

There's also a glossary of important terms at the back, a plot summary, and often a short biography of the author or an explanation of important historical context to better understand the story and when it was written or took place.

Complexity ranges from a few lines of text per page to a full page of text, but all are designed to make reading accessible and fun no matter your comfort level.

We try to always have a few free books on hand for all ages, but you can also buy any book from our general collection or bring one from yours to put on the free shelf!

We also have an ongoing fund to provide books for The PLACE that you can donate to at any time!
