is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue that started with a small group of volunteers who wanted to support the efforts of Houston-area shelters to provide a better quality of life for stray and abandoned animals, medical attention beyond the scope/capabilities of the facilities, and fostering and rescue services for animals with special needs. The organization is named in honor of Emma Starlight Hy
Our new podcast episode today is about a reality many people do not know:
When infant kittens are taken to city or county shelters (vs rescues), they may be euthanized the same day.
Most municipal shelters lack the staff, supplies, or overnight fosters needed to care for bottle-fed kittens. If the kittens are too young to eat on their own (generally under 4 weeks old), the shelter may have no way to keep them alive, despite the good intentions and caring of the staff.
So when someone finds a litter of tiny kittens and thinks, “I’ll take them to the shelter so they’ll be safe,” they may actually be taking them to be euthanized.
This is not about blaming shelter staff. It is about telling the truth.
If you have determined a mother cat is not coming back, and the kittens need help, don't assume the shelter is the safest option.

Princess Buttercup may be tiny, but she has a huge personality! This sweet girl starts purring the second she spots her people and is always ready for attention and interaction. Playful, affectionate, and full of charm, she's sure to bring plenty of smiles to her future family.
One of her most adorable features is the little patch of color on top of her head — it looks just like a tiny princess crown resting on her beautiful white coat. 🤍👑

Update on the two kittens we're helping. Unfortunately, the gray kitten, Percy, continued to deteriorate despite medical care. His finder ended up having to take him to the emergency vet and he was humanely euthanized.
His little orange brother, Megatron, is living up to his name as a fighter and continues to do well, thanks to your support!
These babies need our help! They were taken in by a Good Samaritan after their mother passed away. There were three kittens originally but one also passed. These two survivors, Percival (gray tabby) and Megatron (orange tabby), are dehydrated and malnourished and will be heading to Family Animal Hospital of Friendswood today so we can get them checked out and see what we can do to get them healthy again and eating.
If you would like to contribute towards their medical treatment, any help is appreciated.

Sugar has a gentle, thoughtful personality that makes her extra special. She’s the kind of kitten who likes to sit back and observe what her littermates are up to before deciding to jump into the fun herself. Once she joins in, though, she’s all kitten — playful, curious, and completely adorable. 🐾
