Are you crazy?

That’s a question I often get when people find out I am running for Moon Township Supervisor. Am I crazy? Well, the answer is just maybe I am, and here’s why:

1 - I am a private individual, I don’t have monied connections. I don’t have a trust fund or an inheritance. Therefore, everything about this campaign has been supported by me, my immediate family, and a few close friends in the township. Real Moon Township people have helped me get here today. Corporations and wealthy people have not.

2 - I work and collect a W-2 paycheck and contribute to a 403b every month. I do not own any active corporations or LLCs, or passive income streams. I don’t have any significant investments that would hurl me into the 1% of Moon Township residents. In fact, my income and my home are just about average for the township. This is not true of most members of the current board of supervisors.

3 - I was not born and raised in this township, but I am from western Pennsylvania, and I regularly attended White Swan Park, visited my cousins in Mooncrest, and frolicked on Robert Morris University grounds as a child. Since then, I have lived in four different states as an adult. I have visited all 50 states and traveled to 14 different countries. My perspectives and experiences are as broad and diverse as the people I met on four continents. My experiences have formed my philosophy, and I am not limited to “the way things have always been” nor am I afraid to vigorously push back on that idea.

4 - I served nine years on the board of the Hollow Oak Land Trust. There, I learned from the outsider’s perspective how this township works with outside organizations. There are places to improve how those relationships are handled. I’ve experienced working with the township mostly as a partner but sometimes as a roadblock or adversary to logical progress that supports the environment. Since I’ll have seen both sides if elected, this makes me uniquely qualified to interpret how this government works (or does not) with its community partners.

5 - I’ve demonstrated I can work with community members who have the same goal and objectives but with different overall perspectives. As a BSA scout leader, I had to understand how to be pragmatic to help parents and scouts who had different perspectives to accomplish the goal of becoming an Eagle Scout or an Eagle Scout Parent. I assisted in some way with a dozen or more scouts who reached their Eagle Scout goal.

6 - I am a US Army veteran, but that does not define the sum total of my life, nor would I classify it as my greatest achievement. It was an outstanding life experience that made me who I am today. I am guided by my military bearings, but it is only a small sliver of who I am and what I have done. Many people are surprised when they find out I served. This is the only 1% I belong to.

7 - I’ve been employed as a college professor since 2002. I have worked with very diverse groups of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students on achieving their goals in the communications field. I’ve been tasked with several leadership roles over the years, including a three-year term as Chair of the School of Communication at Point Park University. In that role, I was the budget officer for a ledger representing spending of over 1 million dollars annually. This included budgeting, hiring, firing, capital expenses, scheduling, etc. The budgeting process is not dissimilar from organizing and running the municipal budget. Over the past few weeks, I attended 3 of 4 the 2026 township budget meetings to understand the process from the municipal perspective.

You decide if you want something different on November 4th!
