Storms are moving into northern Cenla.

I'm tracking some strong storms that are producing a ton of lightning and pockets of VERY heavy rainfall. I'm seeing peak rainfall rates around 4-6 inches per hour. Gusty winds and hail are possible with this system as well. If you are in the area, please be careful.

Most of Cenla will likely stay dry this morning, but a stalled front has draped down just enough to bring activity to our northern parishes. Looks like we could see a few more isolated showers or storms later this afternoon, so stay weather-aware throughout the day and prepare for another steamy day ahead.

A Special Weather Statement (SWS) has just been issued for parts of Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parishes until 1:15 PM.

Radar indicates that wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail will be possible as this strong storm moves NE around 15 MPH. These winds could knock down tree limbs or blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation is possible.

Heavy to torrential rainfall and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning are also occurring within this system. Rainfall rates between 2 and 5 inches per hour are possible in this cluster of storms. Stay inside if you can and be extra careful on the roads if you have to travel.

Radar Update + Active Watches and Warnings

Showers and storms continue to push through Cenla. Storms have weakened since earlier this morning, but they are still producing pockets of heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.

Active Alerts:

- Flood Warnings remain in effect for...
1. The Calcasieu River near Glenmora in Rapides Parish until further notice
2. The Calcasieu River near Oberlin in Allen Parish until further notice
3. Whisky Chitto Creek near Mittie in Allen Parish until Monday morning
4. The Calcasieu River near Kinder until late Wednesday morning
5. The Sabine River near Deweyville until early Tuesday afternoon

- Flash Flood Warnings remain in effect for Grant Parish and portions of La Salle and Winn Parishes until 12:30 this afternoon.

- A Flood Watch remains in effect for Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, Grant, La Salle, Catahoula, and Concordia Parishes until 3 PM this afternoon

A Special Weather Statement (SWS) is in effect for parts of Rapides and Vernon parishes until 10:45 AM.

Along with the heavy rainfall and Flash Flood Warnings across our northern parishes, an SWS is in effect for a strong storm moving through our central region. Wind gusts around 40 mph are possible.

These winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

We're also seeing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, so you do not want to be outside if you are near one of these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.

⛈️ Heavy rainfall continues to fall in Cenla. ⛈️

I'm still tracking a strong line of storms moving across the northern half of the region. Radar estimated roughly 3-6.5 inches has fallen from northern Rapides up to northern Winn Parishes.

Rainfall rates around 2-4 inches per hour remain possible.

Along with the heavy rainfall, strong winds will be possible as well. The SPC currently has most of Cenla outlined under a Marginal (level 1/5) risk for damaging wind gusts.

The Storm Prediction Center now has most of Cenla outlined under a Marginal (level 1/4) risk for severe activity today.

Damaging wind gusts will be possible as the strongest storms move through the area along with the expected heavy rain.

Flash flood WARNINGS are in effect for parts of Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, and La Salle Parishes.

Rainfall rates around 2-3 inches per hour are possible.

As of now, Winn Parish has picked up the most rain locally, with hotspots picking up over 3 inches over the last couple of hours.

I’m starting to see those higher totals creep in to northern Sabine and Natchitoches Parishes as the line continues to slowly push southeastward over those areas.
