Who remembers this table? I think it was about 3 years ago when I went to my friend’s Riverhouse and finished this table for her. 🤔

Well…. take a look at her now. 🤗We sanded her all the way back down to the (almost) original pine wood for an updated farmhouse style for her new dining room home. Doesn’t my friend have great taste?! 😍

I’ve been taking some time to reflect on my 40 years! of life. The Aviary Girls has is one of my greatest accomplishments and my most unexpected adventure.

The only thing I ever truly wanted to be “when I grew up” was a mom and I was very fortunate to realize my dream with my two beautiful daughters. I started The Aviary Girls hoping that it would allow me to be there for them, to keep them my number one priority, while making a necessary income. I don’t know if I mentioned that prior to having kids, my husband and I were both teachers. So, yea, necessary income. 🤣

I didn’t have a business plan because I wasn’t planning on a business, I was just trying to make enough money to pay my household bills and raise my children. No dreams of becoming a millionaire or starting an empire over here.

The first Aviary attempts actually began several years prior to craft parties at a “pop up shop” 10 years ago with my dear friend and cofounder. The Aviary Girls was The Lindsay Lettering Company back then. We did not sell one.single.thing.

In 2015, we partnered with a local business (the only one who returned our call) to host our first Craft Party and sold one whole ticket. We filled the empty seats by asking (read: begging) our very supportive friends (you know who you are) to attend. We spent the next two years explaining what a “craft party” was.

The Aviary Girls looks a little different now. I have established business partners, wonderful customers who have become friends, and a loyal, talented team.

But, I think social media is deceptive. Yes, this little business has grown and there have been many successes, but there have been many more failures, lessons learned, all nighters, doubts, sacrifices…

It wasn’t easy starting out and it’s not easy now. I had no idea how difficult and rewarding The Aviary Girls would be, how much it would change and grow, and how much I would change and grow because of it. ❤️

I’m proud of what I’ve created. I love painting, teaching, and building relationships. The Aviary Girls is a natural extension of myself, but it is only possible with your support.

I can’t thank you enough for being a part of this adventure.

Yes! You can now find our signs & decor (and Char’s awesome retro sun-gees 😎) at Vanish in Nollypop’s adorable pink shop featuring items by local artists & small businesses. 🤗

The Grand Opening 🎉 is this Saturday, but Nollypop is open at Vanish every weekend!

I stopped by The Leesburg Flower & Garden Festival 🌸🪴☀️to see my freshly painted sign in the wild. I found my sign and live music, food, drinks, and some of my favorite small businesses. 🥰

The festival is running today (Sunday) 10am-5pm in downtown Leesburg. It’s free to attend and it’s a beautiful day to shop small & support local. ☀️

This Spring Break started with an escape to my friend’s beautiful, waterfront rental home (Golden Riverwatch on Airbnb), my happy place, to relax with my family while I updated a few pieces of furniture for her. Pure bliss. 🥰

It ended with our first Craft Party at the lovely new Craftspace and a fun Easter event at Blend Coffee Bar.

Treat your budding artist to some creative fun over Spring Break while you enjoy a couple of hours to yourself. We’ll take care of the Easter eggs while you take a break. Thursday, April 6th (3-5pm). Drop your child off at Craftspace (conveniently located in Chantilly near the Target shopping center) on Thursday, April 6th from 3pm - 5pm.

We will decorate (wooden) Easter eggs together, learning and using a variety of artistic techniques and media including decoupage, paint, and tie dye. Every crafter will take home half a dozen decorated wooden eggs. These “Eggscellent” projects and activities are fun for all ages, even preteens and teens. This workshop is recommended for ages 7 and up. Crafters will be split into age groups for the best experience.

$49 per crafter.
