Sadly upon the threats of thunderstorms this evening we've made the difficult decision to cancel the movie in the park. We can't take the risk of our equipment getting wet or our screen being damaged by wind or any of you being out in severe weather. Stay in and watch a movie as a family tonight, but we'll see you next Thursday same place, same time, same movie barring any input from mother nature!

Alden Residents,
According to the NFTA Metro website, they will no longer run Route 69A (Alden variant) due to the impact of COVID-19 to our operations. Resources from those routes – buses, drivers, maintenance, fuel – will be used to support Metro’s 54 other routes and aid social distancing.
Alternative service is available for each discontinued route
The portion of the 69 between Lancaster and Alden will be suspended. The 69 will continue to run two inbound and two outbound trips per day, but trips will start/end in Lancaster. Inbound trips will leave Central & Broadway at 7:07 a.m. and 7:31 a.m. Outbound trips will leave Lower Terrace & Charles at 4:41 p.m. and 5:07 p.m.
If this impacts you in any way please send comments/correspondence to [email protected]
Thank you.

Fire Contract Negotiations: I had wanted to respond directly to Town Supervisor Adamski’s latest Facebook post in which he states the Village refuses to be transparent in regard to fire contract negotiations. However, he does not allow comments to be posted on his page. We have given the town all documents required by the contract. The supervisor is seeking many more documents that he is not entitled to and are not relevant to the contract. As Mayor, I am opposed to spending several thousand village tax dollars to produce and copy these documents for him. At the August 16 public hearing at town hall, I did offer to allow a town representative to review these documents at our office. The Village of Alden has been open and transparent throughout this process. The next step in this negotiation is up to Supervisor Adamski.

Rebuttal to Supervisor Adamski’s June 6, 2021 Facebook Post

Once again, I find I must rebut Supervisor Adamski’s attacks on the Alden Fire Department and the Alden Hook and Ladder. His post is filled with baseless allegations and half truths he cannot prove.
Station 2: In the early 1980’s members of the Hook and Ladder decided a substation was needed to serve a growing part of the town. They purchased the property and erected the building using private donations. No tax dollars were used. Whether or not they have a mortgage should be of no concern to the village or the town as no tax dollars are used. Whether they choose to use part of the property for recreational activity is also none of our business.
Financials: The village never denied requests for financial information. We furnished everything pertinent to the fire contract. Whether the supervisor believes it to be incorrect is a matter of dispute.
Fire Budget: The supervisor cites the operating budget for asserting that the town is paying 88% of the village fire expense. The 2020-2021 fire dept. operating budget does not include insurance, workers comp, building repairs and expenses, fire equipment reserve for new equipment or Firefighters Service Awards program. When these items are included the town pays for about 35% of total fire expense. By the way, the town pays the entire Service Awards program costs for Millgrove and Crittenden.
Contract: The only contract change requested was that the fire chief sign instead of the president of the Hook and Ladder as this is a contract between the town and village, not the Hook and Ladder. When I left office in September 2020, all four companies had agreed to a one year extension with a 1.5 % increase due to COVID 19 revenue concerns. At some point the supervisor decided to try to eliminate Alden and have the other three cover Alden’s service area. This rash plan was not well thought out and would have placed town residents and property in danger. In addition, the supervisor felt that outside legal counsel was required at a cost of $8000 to town taxpayers.
Misuse of Funds: The supervisor was the one who alleged that there was misappropriation of funds and unethical practices. It was he who wrote to County Comptroller Mychajliw raising these issues. Subsequent investigation proved these allegations to be false. Once again, the Hook and Ladder does not receive any tax dollars.
I have no idea why Supervisor Adamski continues to attack the Alden Fire Dept. and the Alden Hook and Ladder as they continue to offer first class Fire and EMS service to town residents in their assigned area.

Mayor Michael Manicki
